Mounted/Fixed Views for POV/Ride Cameras

I would really like to see a rigidly mounted camera added to the coaster cam views. Every good coaster POV IRL has a camera rigidly mounted to the train so that it follows the contours of the track exactly, unlike the current 'dynamic' cam in Planet Coaster. The current cameras are a bit frustrating in the way that they move around separately from the train when going around corners or elevation changes as it feels unnaturally 'detached' and also makes it rather difficult to see how smooth your coaster is when the camera does a lot of smoothing out the ride by itself.

In Planet Coaster right now, there are a couple of 'rigidly mounted' cameras for the coasters, but they never offer a good view of the track like the ones in RCT3.

Here's an example of what I mean when I say mounted camera:

It's much more pleasing to the eyes in my opinion.

Completely agree! But the camera types we have in the game move around separately and stuff because they try to hide the horrendous coaster smoothness (and completely fail at that). A static camera would make this stand out way more. Not that this is an excuse or anything, Frontier needs to fix these problems already.

Wider FOV would also be nice.

I know what you mean, but it is actually possible to build very smooth coasters if you take your time with them. The smoothing is very effective if you give it the right ingredients to work with.

Haha, no it's not. No offense, but if you believe Planet Coaster coasters are smooth you have probably never seen a real coaster before. [tongue]

@Ramm A FoV slider would be great! The current FoV is very narrow and can easily cause motion sickness. It also makes coasters and stuff feel a lot slower.

I think this is up to debate of how people experience it their selves.

It can be "smooth" to a certain point. The transitions between track pieces are not smooth.

If I start a corner banked to 45* and I connect new pieces keeping it 45* you won't notice it. Changing the banking midway a corner will result in a "flat spot" where the 2 pieces meet.

So the term "very smooth" does not apply here.

Chems already had an very very good picture to explain it.

But this is not the "coaster smoothness topic so maybe we should move on-topic.

Yeah you're right it be better to keep it in the other thread. Although I might start a new one with a bit more accurate information, as my initial post does miss a lot of important details. The picture you linked for instance does not show the true situation in-game, although it is an accurate representation of the effects it has. Also I thought of making some tutorials to get some decent smoothing results so coasters at least look O.K.

Firstly, I have seen and been on plenty of coasters. I guess you took what I said too literally. PC's coaster building feature works and it is possible to build smooth coasters with almost none that 'blocky-feeling' issue, BUT it takes a ridiculous amount of time compared to something like NL and could definitely be improved. On coasters with a lot of inversions etc, it's much harder to eliminate, but I can get it close enough to where it's negligible. Real coasters aren't picture perfect smooth after all.

Anyway, back to cameras.
