Mouse and Keyboard control seem off?

hard to describe details simply, but used to mouse and keyboard for space sims all way back to Elite II :)

I'm finding flight using mouse and keyboard in the scenario version very lacking.
I've tried tweaking the game settings various ways but it's still not "right" at all for me comfort/style of play yet.
Maybe others have figured out how to get it feeling "sweet"? :)

I remapped keys so:

Q and E spin/rotate the craft around horizontal axis
A and D are sideways thrust
I think W and S should be up/down thrusters
Middle Mouse Wheel should be acceleration/deceleration

that helps and IMHO should be the default keyboard setting

Getting the craft onto a tight firing line seems incredibly hard.

I'm used to being able to get onto an enemy's tail but find it incredibly hard in this game, not sure if controls, combat physics being different to what I maybe used to (being playing the "X"games for long while), or my ineptitude :D

I think the game could use a command or maybe in game software module upgrade that "sets ship to targets velocity" to help with dogfights?

Thanks for any help :)

Default absolute pitch/roll settings were absolutely fine for me until I have bought HOTAS.

During combat you change your speed constantly, speed matching is a bad idea when you need to perform manoeuvers.

I fully understand where you're coming from. However, my saitek X52 just arrived and I can tell you that a good flightstick makes a very big difference.

The mouse is somehow both very unresponsive and all over the place at the same time:S. Just keyboard is also damn difficult, because there is just too many controls.

Flightstick works like a dream.

I've never used a joystick in any game and don't plan to start now so yeah, I don't want the KB+M combo to feel inferior to all those HOTAS users either :p

I tried several configurations, including one similar to that. Problem I had was the mouse wheel is too slow to change speed. Had to spin it like mad :) I don't know if there's a way to add step option?

I bought the Premium Beta a few days ago and managed to beat Incursion today. Absolute Pitch/Yaw works best for me with A/D for roll and W/S for speed, with a few keys set for 50%/100% forward and 100% reverse.

The only niggle I have is that pressing a key to roll doesn't have much as fine control in the rotation speed as I'd want. Even a quick press spins me more than I'd like in most situations.

Mouse + Keyboard - It works very well.
