Move Engineering For Shields and Hull Reinforcements up the Engineering Tree

And reduce the entry level requirements for those engineers by half.

Engineers are almost a necessity in this game. Especially for Open Play.

By adjusting the defense tables people will be able to engineer their ships for survivability and take part in most of the game faster.

Hitting 50 commodities markets and all the mining you have to do for Hull Reinforcments is a huge turn off for a lot of players. Even some of the veterans still hate it after the fact.

This would help people learn the game much quicker and give them a chance to survive in a "cut throat galaxy".

Eh, that is exactly why these requirements are there.... to have you try out stuff you most likely have not been doing...

Hitting 50 commodities markets, is about trading, from various places. so when zipping through the bubble, look at the system, does it have a station nearby, if so, make a quick visit, buy something, and then sell in the next system with a station nearby. and soon you will have visited 50+ markets in equally many different systems. (no use going to every station in a system as that will still only count as one market)

Mining, same deal here, if you haven't done any mining, you have no clue what mining is all about. how to outfit a ship, what ship should you use, is bigger ship better than a smaller ship etc, etc.... (hint bigger is often better when it comes to mining). Nothing different from the bounty unlocking or war bonds unlocking, these are not very fun for people only doing exploration/trading to unlock... and so on... OR travelling 5000 LY away for a PvP player who never have left the bubble? pure torture he would say....

As a matter, everything that involves unlocking engineers are tied to all different tasks you can do in this game, and they make you do it more than just getting a small taste, you need do it more than that. And I can understand that this is off-putting to people who do not like doing stuff they have already decided are "booring".... These where there to put all of us out of our comfort zones and do stuff we have not done before...

So what would people learn from engineering their ships? what game play have they actually learned? the need for shields? the need for better hull? those thing they can already learn without engineering, all engineering does in those cases is to boost already known stuff. But if they are trying to do PvP then they have a big problem.. as now you are at a clear disadvantage if you are not having these upgrades, but for PvE these are not needed, but nice to have, depending on what you do.

I have to disagree that engineering is a necessity for playing in Open - the Bubble is huge and 99% of it is devoid of other players. The only place I ever see other Cmdrs is when I'm engineering.

The 50 market requirement is trivial and can be done in a few hours, but I totally agree that the mining requirement is too high. It should be dropped to 100. By that point you'll know whether mining is something you love or hate.

I think this is a personal thing - if I had to do 50 markets starting from zero I'd go mad. On the other hand doing the 500/10 mining thing only took 2.5 hours and was fun.

At least with the markets you can do it while you're doing other things, like running missions, taking the cargo reward and selling it.
Mining requires outfitting a ship specifically to do it, then you're doing nothing but mining until your brains start to leak out of your ears.

Hmmm. Definitely a personal aspect to it :D
