Move Fleet Carriers further away from planets

My Supercruise Assist constantly crashes me into planets.

This is because it locks onto my fleet carrier from far off. Only when it gets close does it suddenly show the carrier is on the far side of the planet.

What happens is it then unlocks and actually speeds me up, crashing into the atmosphere and damaging my ship.

This happens often.

To reduce this, why not just move the carriers further away from the planets?

It will help but your FC can still be behind. I suggest flying in a loop to the FC and not a straight line. So approach from the north or south pole. If the system is not busy the chances of your FC being i nthe poles is really small

Sounds like a good suggestion! I'll give it a go, although often I just lock on ages away while Im looking up something. The other thing which would be good, would be the ability to put yourself in an orbit with LOS with a surface point, so if you want to be above a settlement, you dont have to do a loop around the planet each cargp run.

I think starting FC's further away would reduce the number of FC's that can orbit a planet, the sphere of influence of a planet is not that large, and it's not really noticable on large planets, but when you start chasing small fast moving ones the sudden entry to the sphere of influence comes, surprisingly fast and alarming, try chasing a small fast moving moon or planet and you will see what I mean. I don't think you could get them far enough away to make that much difference anyway.

That's funny, mine doesn't disengage in that situation, it just goes to zero throttle and says "move to line of sight to target" or similar.
You can zero the throttle while SCA is working anyway.
