Move to Odyssey or stay with Horizons (with my current HWR)?

Hello. LEP owner here who hasn't installed Odyssey yet. So what's the performance with current patch like? I have a 1080ti(11GBVRAM),i79800X CPU(@3.8-4.1GHzstock), 32GBRAM(DDR4@2.66GHzstock) and OS(win10) & Horizons installed on 2SATA SSDs(RAID0 config). Horizons is running on 3 TVs at 2D surround resolution of 5760x1080p. Horizons runs smoothly with everything on ultra @ 60fps (capped by me).I am not planning to do fps just continue my explo from where I've left it with my ship&srv stranded in the middle of nowhere somewhere in the galaxy a couple of years ago. Questions are
-What performance shall I expect if I decide to install now? Will I be able to continue running on ultra everything and @60fps with current hwr?
-can I ingonre the fps part of the game in general and particularly regarding exploration? I am nowhere near civilization neither I am planning to return anytime soon to get a spacesuit and or gear/scanners/weapons.
-Also how much space will it take in my ssd? Can I uninstall horizons to save space or are both horizons and odyssey required for odyssey to work properly? Any advice welcome and sorry for many & stupid questions - I have taken a loong break and trying to assess if a return is worth the time investment.. hardware upgrade is out of the question atm and not warranted just for odyssey anyway imho even if it was possible..

I have 1070Ti with i5 CPU which ran Odyssey now very smoothly but on 1080p single monitor (all graphic maxed). Latest changes helped very much with performance, but resolution you are using is quite bigger to what I have.

Thanks for the input. Yes my resolution is three quarters (75%) of a 4K resolution and it is an un-optimized resolution/setup in the sense that the GPU must also account for any synchronization issues between the three displays (which are also of different brand and different years which adds to the complexity and un-optimization of the setup :()

Try it an see thats the best.
If it runs like pants switch back, then wait for fdev to address performance completly
Yes I guess its better to install Odyssey and keep Horizons and see. If it sucks, uninstall, wait for patch(s) rinse and repeat..
Or sell my car and buy an rtx 3080ti/3090..

Consider Delaying it a few days, as Steam Winter Sale is coming soon, then pull the trigger and see how it runs. You'd be out about 39.00 or so, if they discount it as much as they did at the Black Friday Sale.

If you are not opposed to the Epic Games Store, you can get it for $28 bucks, if you need the base game on Epic, it is also up for $6 or so.

The OP is a lifer, so gets Odyssey for free. All LEP owners do

Actually not free but rather paid in advance ;)..
Also everyone is a lifer as long as they can wait a few years for the next major release - they will get Odyssey for free too then (and fully patched and optimized with the least of bugs) - that's the smart move imho ;)

@OP, on 5900X/1080Ti/32GB/SSD/1440p/all-ultra settings I'm getting 60 fps (capped) most of the time. The exceptions are:
- short-time drops to 50-55 fps while descending to the planet surface (got much better after Update 9, though)
- drops even to 25-30 fps if there is a lot of alien life nearby on the planet (for example: tubus "forest")
- sometimes the animation is not seamless even though fps counter shows 60 fps

BUT, your resolution is almost 1.7x higher than mine. I'm afraid you'll encounter bottlenecks more often than I do. Still worth switching to EDO, if you ask me. :)

I've just taken the plunge and bought Odyssey as it's for sale on Epic. Downloaded the 50gb update overnight and spent a couple of hours tinkering with my graphics settings. I have a basic starter rig and am using a GTX 1650 super and I can get 60fps on planets, inside buildings and when flying it space. Sure, certain areas see framerate drops (which I was expecting) such as when l land at settlements but never when I'm on foot oddly. But it's hardly the shuddering disaster people suggest that it is. Considering your additional processing chops I'd recommend taking a chance. I could run horizons on high spec and set odyssey to medium and the game still looks better. I was put off my all the moaning about the game since May but seeing the state of play as it is now makes me wish I'd jumped on board earlier.

You have a stellar CPU which is 2+ years more recent than mine. It is ranked 11nth vs 137th mine in UderBenchmark. I think your CPU can pull much much more than mine at points where our otherwise more/less equal systems would struggle. Plus the fact my resolution is much higher so I think I have to either forget ultra @ 5760x1080p or reduce my resolution to 1080p single monitor.. I've spent way too much money to accept this in just 2-3 years time. I think I am staying with Horizons. I'll have to suck my pride and be content. :(. Thanks for the input. The bitter truth really hurts..

"Or sell my car and buy an rtx 3080ti/3090.." this option is no longer available, the new rise in GPU cards price will force you to sell the car, the house AND the cat.

1060 with a 43" tv, horizons on ultra and high settings sticks to monitor tv refresh rate, no problem.

1060 with 43" tv odyssey on low settings new patch to date runs like a tortoise.
