Movies that are close to Elite: Dangerous

Hi Cmdrs,

Are there any movies/series out there you would recommend that would be worth watching and remind you of this fantastic Space Sim, of course Im hoping for a ED Movie myself or even TV series. ;)

One I can recommend would be Firefly.

Riker13 ;)

Kind of unusual, but I recently watched Space Battleship Yamato 2199, and the ships reminded me of Elite. It's anime, and the animation is incredible, they even show the various thrusters firing as the ships maneuver.

Now, as I said, kind of out there in regard to being related to ED, but the animation and ship designs, attention to detail, and the music were really amazing. It's just gorgeous to watch, if you enjoy animation.

I can actually recommend Interstellar. It reminds me of Elite: Dangerous a lot. Just how slow-paced it is in space and the lighting in that movie.

Some parts of Avatar reminded me of ED as well.

Anything that has space in it. Elite is after all based on your imagination so anything can remind from elite. BSG definitely worth to watch even tho jesus comes in it too much at the end.

General mood in the movie "Moon" (2009) is pretty accurately reflecting how I feel on my long exploration voyages.

The film that reminds me the most Elite Dangerous, is the short movie of Kris Avery

:)

I found Harlock, A space pirate, gets me wanting to get into an anaconda every time, 20 minutes in and the best form of combat is the classic "I'm bigger, Ill just ram you"

What about "Prometheus"? There was an exploration mission.

"Lost in space" Also about exploration and aliens. Yeah, and time travel ;)

Upcoming movie "The Marsian" is about an astronaut that gets left behind on Mars. Actually more planet site than we have today in ED :)

Star Trek Voyager of course!

I think Stargate: Universe - there's exploration, fuel scooping :) , and view from inside of "Destiny" is very similar to the one from 'Conda :D

Movies with no plot? No direction? No conflict or progression?

No plot. No direction. Completely opaque but beautiful to look at and a distinct feeling that there's a lot more to the movie than you can understand, even after you've read the book, and the short story on which it's based...

2001: A Space Odyssey

If you can stand the incredible levels of cheese, try Wing Commander. It's on SyFy sometime this weekend for those in the UK. The plot and science are preposterous but the fighter craft fly like WWII aircraft and many of them are armed with multi-cannons. :)

On a combat level I would say BSG.
I decided to re-watch the mini series not long after I joined beta and it really felt similar to joining a conflict/warzone in ED especially with flight assist off in turns. Also Viper in both, probably not an accident as the original Elite launched at the time the original BSG was popular and ED really packed in the cultural references back then, Thargoids, docking music from 2001 and trumbles just to name a few

The American Astronaut

Space is a lonely town...
It has everything you'd expect from Elite. The ultimate rare commodity trade run:

"Space travel has become a dirty way of life dominated by derelicts, grease monkeys, thieves, and hard-boiled interplanetary traders such as Samuel Curtis (Cory McAbee), an astronaut from Earth who deals in rare goods, living or otherwise.

His mission begins with the unlikely delivery of a cat to a small outer-belt asteroid saloon where he meets his former dance partner, and renowned interplanetary fruit thief, the Blueberry Pirate (Joshua Taylor). As payment for his delivery of the cat, Curtis receives a homemade cloning device already in the process of creating a creature most rare in this space quadrant – a Real Live Girl.

At the suggestion of the Blueberry Pirate, Curtis takes the Real Live Girl to Jupiter where women have long been a mystery. There, he proposes a trade with the owner of Jupiter: the Real Live Girl clone for the Boy Who Actually Saw A Woman’s Breast (Gregory Russell Cook). The Boy Who Actually Saw A Woman’s Breast is regarded as royalty on the all-male mining planet of Jupiter because of his unique and exotic contact with a woman. It is Curtis’ intention to take The Boy to Venus and trade him for the remains of Johnny R., a man who spent his lifetime serving as a human stud for the Southern belles of Venus, a planet populated only by women. Upon returning Johnny R’s body to his bereaved family on earth, Curtis will receive a handsome reward.

Catch it on YouTube or Hulu

Outland. It doesn't have much by way of spaceships but it's pretty much how I imagine one of the Elite outposts to be.

Yes, the industrial style complexes in Outland, the way corridors look... it would fit Elite pretty good.
Firefly is of course the ideal example for elite characters. I hope to have a small crew on my ship in the future, too... :).

Also a nice way to get rid of the free sidewinders... earn your money to get back into space by working on a player ship for an hour or two...

Why go for a movie that's like a WWII aircraft? Why not watch a WWII aircraft movie? always Entering a combat zone always reminds me of the confusion shown in this clip .
