Minti2

Deadly, But very fluffy...
To elaborate, I have no real liking for any cowboy films. I think it may have something to do with being totally disconnected from the history that they came from. And there's the way that they all seem so drab and brown. Brown leather jackets, hats, boots and holsters; driving brown cattle through brown dusty scrublands and wooden towns while riding brown horses, sometimes I feel they might have been sepia-toned post-production.

You cant possible mean you dont like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!
do know what you mean though, cowboys films are not my general cup of tea, but i do love the man with no name films, and even Dances with wolves was ok.....but give me An ice cold in Alex, or the man in the white suit for a good sunday afternoon film! ;)

THe Val Kilmer movie to avoid (and he;s made some stinkers)... was called The Traveller.

GUFF :D Can't blow enough raspberries at it... I'd rather watch a Glee omnibus... who am I kidding. Im gonna do that anyway!!

I have a pretty wide taste in movies, but there are some I just find MEH.. and some that are gut wrenchingly good.. "The Orphanage" sooo goood..

Also I do love challenging movies.. but sometimes you need some no plot action..

I loved Halloween H20... the futuristic one.. GENIOUS.. and leads to thoughts of Alien vs Halloween... woot!! Better than Freddie vs Jason GUFF GUFF GUFF GUFF.... GUFF!!!!!! Bet Frank loved that one: :D..

Frank I'd love to watch some movies with you, I think we could rip them to pieces and enjoy the process.. (heaven help Allen Stroud).. and I normally do this with my wife, but she's just no longer able to do this... maybe in a year or so if she recovers more.

Anyway Im watching two hell raiser movies that I haven't seen yet.... for most likely good reason... Inferno and something else... I have seen upto Bloodlines but luckily missed these two... time to fix that and most likely repent.

My brother and his friends used to rent videos based on the criteria on the back of the box.

You know those 4 little boxes that contained information on things like swearing, nudity, etc.?

Well one film had none for nudity, mild for swearing and for violence it had the word continuous.

That film was Death Machine and was directed by Stephen Norrington who irrc went on to direct Blade.

Fantastic film, I got an import on dvd but was quite heavily cut from the UK vhs release. When I bought it there wasn't a UK dvd release. Maybe in the intervening 10 years there might of been a release.

Well worth watching.

Video Shop: Old posters! I used to love going to the video shop and buying all the old movie posters. Wish I'd held onto them, some of 'em would be worth a small fortune now.

I never did get into that, I did have friend that collected all the movie promo stuff... just looked like more tat to me.. still they are worth a fortune..

My brother and I had hundreds of VHS tapes... all ex-rentals from Global and some actual purchased ones.. Quite a collection.. and then he converted it to DVD and now he is working on his blu ray collection..

We have some WEIRD movies.. for your consideration..

"The nose picker" he picks his nose and turns into a girl... Don't ask how he turns back!!!!

Nowhere did I critique anyone's tastes. I specifically said that *personally* I consider it to be this way, even including my own personal bias in the resultant definition. Therefore all I was saying was "my taste in movies is not the same as yours".

I re-read your post. I got the tone of it wrong. Sorry.

There's a lot of stuff out there to watch and listen to and read. We can't get to all the good stuff. We have to apply some sort of filter, some sort of bias.

Some of the best genre movies are ones which take the clichés of the genre and turn them on their head. I'm not a big fan of Horror movies but I was aware enough of them to find "Cabin in the Woods" very entertaining. Have you watched Unforgiven? What did you think of it?

Unforgiven I have seen, but I dont really recall much about it.
I did however love Val Kilmer in Tombstone and as much as I loved the original of the 3:10 to Yuma and it did have a better feel to it... I LOVED the 2007 version with Christian (could make me gay) Bale.

I do actually like some westerns..

Some sort of Elite: Dangerous Film Club? Pick some good movies that are showing that week on free-to-view telly. Get people to vote which one to watch. Then spend the rest of the thread picking the movie apart, safe in the knowledge that anyone reading the thread has seen the movie, so no complaints about spoilers.

Sounds like a great idea! I'd join in. You'd be best organising it. My organisational skills are very poor.

I've never seen Mystery Science Theatre. I take it that it's on Sky. But you sound enthusiastic so I'll say .. Yes! just like Mystery Science Theatre 3000 :)

Wow... I can barely remember coming up with this idea never mind standing as the CEO of operations... however it must be true... SO.. I shall scour the TV guides and look for the terestial channels and I believe the new wiggles movie is due on soon... so that could be fun..

Also we may need to comment on edits made for TV... they could prove interesting re Ghostbusters and Wall Street...

Right I shall go look for this weeks possible entries... and get a poll up.

We may need to find a third opinion, to represent the kids. kikkin it and sheet.

Let me see what this weeks offerings could be

Better make it for movies later in the week to give folks time to vote. It might be a bit of a disaster if it's only a couple of us who vote, and we both vote for different movies.

Hee hee hee.

No, it wasn't on Sky - It started out on an American cable channel KTMA and got something of a cult following which prompted a move away from cable. Cardboard sets were a bit out of their budget range, even the movie they made looked pretty cheap.

None of that mattered though, because the premise of the show was enough to sell it. Basically, a guy and 2 robots sit in silhouette in a movie theatre on a space station, and poke fun at old B movies (The guy changed once over the years). The whole plot was an elaborate setup to allow them to do this, and is explained quite concisely in the show's theme song:

It even has a line in there to cater for hardcore sci-fi fans - "If you're wondering how he eats or breathes, and other science facts, just repeat to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax"

There are whole episodes out there on Youtube running for about 90 minutes, but for a taster I would recommend this clip from Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (Where they tear chunks out of the credibility of This Island Earth):

"Look! A handily placed guard rail to fall over! Argh!"

And don't forget their review of NiN "Closer" video: "Thunderbirds are alternative!"
