moving cargo containers manually into the ship

What would be needed? For example, a space pallet truck that would allow you to transfer individual cargo containers to your ship without having to have an SRV. Why? Further expansion and functionality in Odyssey. Also the ability to complete mission involving small amount cargo extraction (it's usually 4t), but without having to install an SRV on your ship.

From Comics to Star Wars Empire always had Hovering Platforms. Strange that only in ED Empire has suddenly lost that technology.

Genrally I had a hovering pallet-jack rather than truck on my mind ;)
Another example would be a flying drone that carries a container behind you or an exosuit powered by a cable from a ship that allows you to work at a short distance. This would also be a cool decoration that would enhance the look of small settlements in Odyssey. In other cases, the SRV would be better and in general it would also contribute to improving these vehicles, such as the modularity or engineering mentioned in the discussions. In general, the topic of colonization opens up great possibilities related to the processes of construction, transport and small planetary architecture. And it is precisely such things that should add flavor, rather than the interiors of ships that will absorb a lot of work and where in the end we will not be able to do anything except sit on a chair and click on a tablet like on a fleet carrier.

Both could do the task.

Disagree, ship interiors are essential to make ships feel complete and for better immersion. There are enough gameplay suggestions on the forums.

Yeah, the ED universe doesn't have artificial gravity which is what most of these tropes utilise, the ED universe never had it in the first place. Here you go, only 3kg's, keep in mind can only be used in a decently thick atmosphere, don't let it fall on your foot;

Aren’t the canisters a tonne each?
I'm assuming they hold up to a tonne, including the canister itself, at 1G? Depending on the planet a CMDR may or may not be able to lift a canister of anything unassisted.

I honestly don't mind what in-universe mechanic is implemented to allow the collection of these things on-foot (not just canisters of commodities, but more usefully, materials). That could be an exoskeleton to take the weight, some kind of drone, I'd even take needing your ship nearby with a collector controller and a limpet available to manually target the collection on-foot.

Why am I thinking of swallows?
African or European?

It would be great if the game mechanics took the local gravity into account more prominently. Depending on that, one could lift by hand, or be forced to use specific tools.

Nah... too much code spaghettification, but one can dream. 🤔

All ships have cargo scoop already. I do not know if containers on the ground are visible in contact list but if they are it might be possible to use ship with small footprint to pick it up- ViperMKIII for example.
As for manual load of ~500t of cargo I would say no- I do not need a sim of what I have in RL during harvest time:)

This would be good at least for materials, since those are usually fairly small. No special equipment needed. But for commodities, maybe have equipment available on your ship that will allow you to pick up 1 ton and bring it back to the ship. This would be for salvaging only though, as I don't want this for moving 600 tons of stuff on and off my carrier. However, maybe take weight into account, so if you salvage on a high-g world you need more skill or a better suit or better equipment.
