How will you play elite, single player or multiplayer?

I originally thought I would just stick to the SP, but the MP idea is kind of growing on me, I like the unpredictability of the humans, and I think it works pretty well so far, I thought it would just be a case of the strong picking off the weak.

But now I think its kind of almost essential to play it with others, definitely the way its shaping up.

I was also considering having an SP save and an MP save, but unless there's a big difference in gameplay I dont think I would bother with that either.

So Ive gone full circle pretty much to the idea of playing online only from SP only and maybe having a quick blast of MP maybe once in a while.

But what will the majority do? This being a online forum I guess most would take online and it might just be the true casual, non forum users that stick to SP.

I'd be interested to know why the SP only crowd would go that way too.

From a "game released" point: Both.

Originally I too leaned heavily to SP, because, well, open world PvP has not been nice to me. :p

However, the way things are shaping up, I most certainly will give it a try. :) I love seeing videos where multiple people meet at space stations, makes me wish Standard Beta would be here already, ha. ;)

I will at the same time also play offline SP, where I can take things slowly and see if I can affect the galaxy etc all by my lonesome self. :D

Exactly what happened to me, now I think there would be something missing without it.

And the time you need to invest for a possible lesser SP experience I dont think it would be worth dividing my time. Maybe I think I would prefer to invest it all into a single online only save.

Well, I want to try offline SP too (OffSP?), because it will be a different experience! :) As for how I will split it, eh, I suspect that will vary from day to day (I got a health that goes a bit up and down, affecting me quite a bit).

But I do sincerely hope to see DB's vision of MP come true, especially with future expansions in mind -- walking into a seedy bar and meeting with another player to plan something or whatever. Awesome future ahead! :D

It depends on the difference for me,

if its the exact same game but with AI replacing humans then I dont think I'll bother,

But if the SP is deeper or less restricted because of not having the multiplayer baggage or not having to sacrifice stuff to work for mp, I think I would have to try both.

I'm not sure that there will be 2 different versions of the game though.

No, of course there won't be two different versions -- just online or offline. :)

Well, except in offline I hope we can pause. :p

Either way, as I said, I hope MP becomes all DB dreams of.

I'll be playing single player at least initially. My flying is currently worse than awful and too embarrassing to be seen by the full community on multiplayer.

Ha ha, I know that feeling, If we had stats my KDR would be about 1/100, it should be 3 but 2 got away.

What would make me join multiplayer without a second thought for Beta 1 is an increase of systems of greater proportion to the amount of new players coming in than we presently have.

If the number of systems stayed the same, I'd defintiely pick singleplayer, even though my eventual intention is the all group. The fish bowl chaos was cute at first but it's getting obnoxious. The practical multiplayer experience of Elite, at least on the frontier, is having rare but exciting meetings with players. The Elite multiplayer experience has been a bit diluted when the universe is effectively microscopic to the point where there's always lots of players everywhere.

Yeah, I'm also worried about the other extreme - not enough players to fill the universe, the player base would need to be huge, or as soon as you leave the home planets you will never see another soul again. And the home planets will be so rammed you'd be glad of the peace once in a while :)

I worried about the possibilities of mostly everyone hanging about 'the spot' where all the actions happens, kind of like the go to place of the beta.. Having this huge universe but everyone still hanging around the nearest warzone spawn.

Multiplayer, and not going anywhere far off, we don't want anyone to take advantage of sloppy border patrols now! ;)

The number of systems will be the same between modes. Around 100 billion.:D
