Multi-cannon supposed to fire by them selves?

I bought a Python, and I wanted the same setup as I had with my Cobra MK3, multi-cannons gimballed, but instead I bought the turreted ones.. Are they supposed to be firing by themselves? I have no control over them

Turrets are a bit weird. I dont know exatly the procedure to use them properly but what I did was;

Assign them a weapon group to activate
set turret status in the right side panel to "my target" or "fire at will"
Press trigger for them.

No idea how to turn them back off in the same combat encounter though.

Hmm that's some weird stuff.. Isn't it possible to buy a high class multi-cannon gimballed? I could only find some to 40.000CR or something.. Compared to the weapons that costs million I guess those gimballed doesn't cut it?

Your better off with fixed and learning to shoot yourself. Honestly. Its not taht hard and your weapons do a fair bit more damage and a far far cheaper.

From what I can tell Turrets have the following behavior:

Fire at Will: Shoots anything that is hostile on radar. Do not recommend.
Target only: Shoots any hostile target that is the current target, which means to shoot a wanted ship that is not hostile, you must shoot them with another weapon to make them hostile. Be careful when cycling targets.
Forward Fire: Makes them fixed.

I recommend to not deploy hardpoints until you need them and then put them away after the target is dead. Especially for multicannons to not waste ammo.

Turrets are really aimed at the less agile space-trucks as a way of giving pirates something to dodge so that they can't just zoom in and blow you up without a least a small amount of effort and giving you the small possiblity that you might have to time to recharge your FSD and jump out (very small in most cases!).

A Python is still pretty agile, especially for its size - you can mount turrets if you want but you'll probably get more satisfaction from going with fixed or gimballed and getting a greater degree of control over what you're shooting at.

Ok, I think I understand now.. But what fixed multi-cannons would you suggest for a Python? I'm not sure what to look for

The simple answer is YES>>><<<<

But make sure you set the turrets to Target Only in the ships functions panel. if you do not then you will attack anything which is red, and that includes cops if you kill a green.

Multi Cannons are great but never tried the turreted ones yet. Let me know how you get on.

Turreted weapons work great, I think. My turreted beam laser on my eagle top hardpoint is so clever and useful that I'm considering giving it a pet name.

Three options are available:

-Fire at will. The turret pick anything hostile and in range, and fires at will. You don't fire it manually. Not the best option.

-attack my target: will automatically fire at your current target, provided it's hostile. Same as "fire at will", you don't control it. The best option by far, I think.

-fire straight ahead (or something like that i don't remember): will fire in front of you, at your command (trigger pull). Act pretty much as a fixed weapon, except the small gimbal auto adjustment does not seem to be available here.

I see, thanks.. But what would you recommend for me? I want a multicannon like this, but I want it gimballed and fired my me, triggered.. Not sure what to buy

This statement isn't actually true. Yes turret are good if your are a space trucker who just wants to run, but you miss one really good thing about turrets, If you are using pulse laser turrets or even multi cannon turrets they will always be locked on the target even if the target is below you, where as gambits cannot do this. Also if the ship you are taking on is as good as you you do not have to worry so much about turning circle as the other person because all you need to do is keep the turret side of your ship facing them.

Its a shame that you only see the turret as a slow ships weapon, but its really affective when you are in a faster more nimble ship as well. Less buttons to press and they are good for taking down shields.

Yeh that's fair enough. I think I'd just always be worried about hitting something I don't want too with turrets mounted but I'm not trying to suggest that noone uses them.

try out the cheap gimbled multies, see what you think, then move to bigger calibre if you want more hitting power

Oh man, I understand that. I had a turret shoot the security fighters. Kinda sucks how you can't manually fire them.
I played this game on a second computer and forgot to set turrets to fire at target only and I racked up a 10k bounty on me before I realized what happened.

I want the bigger calibre right away in fact.. But the only gimballed I can find is a low class 40.000CR cannon.. Is there any gimballed multicannon type of weapons by the million price tag?

its ok I knew what you meant with turrets, its that fire at anything which is the problem, but once set up they work really well. I used to have a class 2 beam and a class 1 pulse turreted lasers on my Asp and the other 4 guns were multi guns, Turrets were great for ripping off shield, but there just wasn't enough Umph if you know what I mean. I use 6 multi cannons now, Elite 190 k+ pirates last less than 5 minutes, and that's attacking them head on and not just trying to get on their tails in the hope to stay away from their weapons.

They don't call me crazy for nothing lol

Yes in the High Tec High population areas, or go to Fonders Planet

I'm at a high tec area with high end stuff, but cant find decent weeapons.. I'll try Fonders Planet. Is that a system? Because I can't find it when searching

If you type in FOUNDERS WORLD you will find it.. Jamerson memorial Cheaper than normal prices, if you have the permit.

Edit, between this post and last I just popped a nice 250k Anaconda with my cheap 14k multi cannons and thats including leaving system and finding the ship lol

I fitted one to my cobra as a trial and went to a nav zone, targeted a wanted ship and while engaged in battle had realised that within a few secs all entries on radar were red and that gun was firing at everyone. I had to leave quick. I went straight back to the station and replaced it with gimbled.

It is possible that without me knowing the feds may have turned on me when I attacked who was the most popular and loved pirate in their sector, but I think I prefer some sort of control. I would like the Turreted weapons to have a little more restraint. I.e. only fire at my current target, or fire back at someone that is attacking me if you cant see my target.
