Multi-Cannons vs Plasma Accellerators?

I've just unlocked Bill Turner, so I've bought and engineered four, class 4 Plasma Accellerators for my two Corvettes (one in the bubble, and another at Colonia).

The thing is though, these ships are already almost invincible with the engineered class 4 Multi-Cannons they've been equipped with for, like ages.

I'm not really a combat person, and I have the reflexes of a tree. So what do you all think... which weapons should I use on the Corvettes?

Cheers all :)

I do have gimballed Multi-Cannons for that very reason. Sadly the Plasma Accelerators are fixed.

If your Corvette is near-invulnerable, then swapping in a pair of PA's should give you a chance to raise those reflexes up from Tree to at least Reed in the Wind by practicing.

I too was terrible with fixed weapons, until I strapped 5 PA's to an FGS, and now I can do this:

And believe me, it feels SO good to do that.

What would you recommend upgrading 2 C4 PACs with? i was thinking 1 overcharged and 1 efficient. so that the distributor draw stays the same, (but 50+% extra damage) and the thermal load will go down a lot.

I'm quite fond of Efficient mods for PA's, with either Phasing Sequence and Thermal Conduit, or Plasma Slug so you can keep firing until you run out of fuel.
Some prefer Long Range, as it increases the speed of the PA shot.

I go for Overcharged, and whatever causes maximum damage with everything... except my sensors obviously :)

I'd put my money on Turreted or Gimbaled Multi-Cannons with Corrosive Shell upgrades on all of them. PA's are kind of cool and all, but at the end of the day, I can shred a ship to bits with MCs in a third the time.

I thought corrosive shells were not scalable? ie: You may as well just put it on your least powerful multi-cannon, and put other magic spells on the rest?

Multicannons are probably better for bad reflexed, but if you're willing to practice, nothing is as satisfying as plasma.

I would go with both effecient. The paper damage boost isn't as much as overcharged (you do get some still, though), but the combined reduction in heat and capacitor use means you'll be able to use them (and your other weapons) a lot more frequently. Higher paper DPS is pretty meaningless when you've been firing other weapons and now can't shoot your plasma due to insufficient capacitor.

As you do, I use multis on the 2 huge, 3 PAs (efficient of course) on the large/med and rails on the tyrannosaurus arms (2 small). Seriously why FDev? The smalls on the corvette should be mediums too! End rant.

If you want to goof about with plasma accelerators and are concerned about your combat skills (assuming we're talking about attacking npcs here) my suggestion would be keep your multi cannons on the corvette and for fun, buy a Vulture.

Then go see your mate Bill and make a pair of class 3, grade 5 modded efficient plasma accelerators. Add a beefed up power distributor of your choice; increased recharge rate or increased weapons capacity, either works. Top it off with the usual selection of biweave shields, boosters and armour, then do whatever you need to do to your power plant if you're short of juice overall. Then take it into a res site and see if you can stop giggling for long enough to shoot something. You can outfly pretty much anything and assuming your upgrade rolls were decent, you can fire the plasma accelerators all day at their maximum rate.

Engineer them with TLB's, put each on a separate trigger ala' a Rinzler build and have mondo fun in PvP encounters, too.

The advantage of multicannons is low power usage, high ammo capacity and high continuous damage as long as you can keep enemies in sight. PAs are high damage, but low ammo capacity, low damage per second, and no damage at all if you can't hit with them. I would try PAs on a smaller more maneuverable ship and see how you like them if you haven't used them before. It does take some getting used to, but the more you use them, the better you get at it. But for PVE res hunting, I would stay with multicannons because you can stay a lot longer. Or, since you have two vettes, why not do one of each and see which you like best?

Plasma slug + premium ammo buy = never ending 30% damage bonus. Just don't refull at a station while they're on your ship. Scooping is fine.
