Multi-crew pilots and turrets

I like multicrew. I confess.

It's bugged as hell, there's some sort of connection fail 2 times out of 3, still I had great fun with it and with the "right" people. I usually join ships - I normally don't enjoy combat that much but the cooperation makes it better. It has something about it, that is more enjoyable than wings to me. I met very cool people with multicrew.

Rant mode on. My plea to multicrew ships out there, opening their seats : would you please fit at least one turret?
It won't break much of your DPS, but it would be a more pleasant welcome to those who join.

As we can't pick what type of ship we want, in what situation, I found it pretty easy to stumble on CMDRs opening their seats for Multicrew pip-meat. No talking, no turrets, no countermeasures, fighters only. Walk or die.
Guess what, I already know of fighters. They've been there for months. They're cool but I'm here for the new experience. The thing is I would probably take a fighter if you did not force me to it. Now if you're a lone wolf who can't even resolve to saying o7 but still goes in for the benefits, I leave, block and we all lose some time.

Rant mode off.

Like you, all in all I've had a very positive experience with M-C and I've don't understood the "no talking" CMDRs.

I don't use turrets on my Vette, but I might in future. I was put off them by some forum posts trolls saying they used them to cause grief. Although I know you can get that with crew using your SLFs by attacking non-wanted targets.

Guess like with any pick-up-group, you'll get muppets and you'll get decent folk.

Yeah the crime system is no real excuse.
I think it's just a matter of dps or not wanting to compromise the build for a one or 2 time occasion. And of course you've got to engineer your turrets...

But how surprising is that, people wanting to play with others - without even the strength to say hello.
Dunno.

My biggest problem with allowing randoms into my gunner position is that three times in four, they crap up my fire groups...which are very specifically set the way I want and need them to be. Even if I set aside a fire group specifically for people to trash in multi-crew, they are often reorganizing the others before I can finish filling them in.

Also, blocking people because you don't like the rules they've put in place for their ships is pretty extreme...and will almost certainly cause instancing issues for others at some point.

To me it looks like... people want NPC crews but FD is trying to enforce certain playstyles and does not allow that.
What you are seeing looks like very simple workaround - without communicating with you they are simply getting their crewman, and there is no difference between npc and human from their point of view without actual communication...

I would like to meet you ingame!! Seriously!!!
I would like to have a gunner that knows that he can and SHOULD use my turrets and packhounds. Especially the packs benefit from the 360° angle!
Bountyhunting with a good gunner makes fun, especially since i need some.time to get used to my switch from KB+M to Hotas :D

Feel free to add me as friend ingamd, same cmdr name as in forum. I can provide you a MC session that makes fun ;)

I only did once, because the dude called me an idiot as I was flying around it over a CZ, as he was going for refill. I docked and he abruptly put an end to the session. Idiot was the only word he uttered in 5 minutes. Maybe he was speaking to a NPC? I don't know. Actually the turret part is optional if the guy behaves normally. If he's not, well. Turret or not, I don't want the matchmaking to put me in his ship again.

Concerning firegroups, I believe there's an option to give limited control to the weapons, preventing people from using countermeasures and remaking firegroups. I could be wrong about the last bit but I don't think so, still I rarely invited people inside my own ship.
As I was starting a new game, they tend to run away from an unmodded cobra...

The issue with the block feature is it's blanket effect on instancing prioritization. You cannot block a specific aspect without also trying to keep that CMDR out of any instances you are currently in and vice versa.

There are plenty of people I don't want to talk to, don't want to crew with, don't want to wing with, etc...but even if I also don't care to be pitted against them I'd rather not cause instancing issues for those who may want to instance with them, or have instancing issues of my own because someone I know happens to be in their instance already. The game could certainly use a more granular block feature (chat especially), but we don't have one yet.

I've heard this, but I haven't been able to find such options anywhere. Do you know where it's supposed to be?

I hear you, actually I did not know of the technical part. I wouldn't have done so if I knew it could cause problems. And as I was venting, of course I don't block people for their lack of turrets. It's just more polite and fun to get them - because 5 times out of 6, you get in a corvette or a cutter that really benefit from them, or could do with them (depending on your view on the matter). I don't know how it works really, never did I find myself aboard any other ship. Oh yes, a python, but connection fail beforehand.

It's in functions, right hand panel, and it only appears when you're looking for a crew ( a bit weird but here it goes).

* Elite lacks an option to forbid to use the gunners seat
* Gunners often wreck my fire groups
* My turrets work best without a gunner
* Set the gunner to limited did not help in any way

Personally ive never been on a multicrew ship because anytime ive clicked on it it hasnt provided me one (dunno if networking or time i play). I also fly a ship that wouldnt be much fun to multicrew in other than moral/pip support (check sig).

Though i do agree that if i joined a ship id like at minimum 1 turret at my disposal.

The tip is to look for " + " after the name of the activity. It signals that there are ships open. You normally don't get any if there's no +, as far as I tried.

As the feature's still a bit new, and as so few people actually let you use the turrets, it took some time to find someone willing to let me accustom to them. The mouse control is a bit jumpy, the joystick control is something to get used to, and sometimes you just need to set parameters.
But I can swear they're easy to work with if the guy's awake. A gunner keeping his sight on a target rarely misses a shot contrary to the computer which sometimes go dumb, and it bypasses chaffs. Moreover, a human knows when to shoot and does not drain the capacitor in vain - and ammunition, good for kinetic - which is hardly a problem in the big engineered warships though.
