Horizons Multi-crew Questions

Hi all, I just got back into ED since the recent patch. I've stopped playing for a while now but wanted to play again.

A friend had kept playing casually since release and now has an Anaconda, so last night for the first time for both of us I joined his crew.

Obviously we had some learning, and remapping of some controls, but even still we have a few questions.

1. You seem to be able to only join a friends ship in a Private Group and not Open play? Is this correct? (we even tried both pressing find a fraction of second later than him hitting find, but never got joined in Open - and couldn't find a way to just join his ship).

2a. Once in a private group another friend wanted to join us, but as my friend had an NPC crew member he couldn't join as crew. Is this right? No way to tell the NPC to go sit in the back?

2b. After failing to join as a crew we couldn't join as a wing. Is this correct?

3. Ok, so we get to a Nav point, and my friend wanted me to pilot the ship while he flew about in the fighter ... however we couldn't figure out how to do this. Is this possible ?

4. So, I went into the fighter and he stayed in the Anaconda. However we couldn't find a way for me to dock back into the 'conda. The only way we found was for him to start super cruise, at which point I would be bounced back into the ship with the NPC now in the fighter, cancel the SC, and then get the NPC to come back with the fighter. Is this the only way or was we missing something?

There were a few other odd things, but those are the main one's.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

1. You can only join ships in the same mode as yourself; so if you are in a private group, you can only join players in the same group. If you are on open, you can only join players in open.
2a. NPC crew and player crew Should™ be separate and not be blocking each other.
2b. You cannot be in multicrew and in a wing at the same time. It is possible that a failed attempt at joining a wing would somehow leave the game thinking you're in multicrew though, so if that happens, check if you can leave multicrew through the menu. If there is no indication of you being in multicrew and you're still getting that as a reason for being unable to join a wing, report a bug.
3. The helm role is fixed to the ship owner. No other player can take that role.
4. No idea, but the helm Should™ be able to recall the fighter through the role menu AFAIK.

1) Correct, best way to join a friend is manually invite them directly into the crew by clicking on them on the friends list and "invite to crew" instead of doing an open search.

2a) Shouldn't happen like that, could be networking bug rather than the NPC causing the problem.

2b) Sort of correct, you can't mix and match. But if you multicrew then cancel out of it entirely you should be able to then have a wing formed. Just got to be sure it isn't searching for a crew in the background or something.

3) Correct, as above only ship owner can pilot the ship. Crew can do gunner or fighter roles at current.

4) Fighter has to request dock same way you would if you were in your fighter. Bottom panel -> Request dock. Helm will get a notification saying "fly steady so fighter can dock" and voila should work.

Thanks for the replies.

Regarding 1 : We couldn't get this to work in open, I ended in another ship and could not see a way just to join. Will check again.

2 & 3: these seem like missed opportunities - ohh well.

4. We defiantly can't find a way to re-dock. My friend says when he looks down and goes to the control panel, there is no option to allow the fighter to dock or recall. Ticket time?

For #1 it should be just like a wing request with nobody searching just a "request" and "accept request"

Vid link to timestamp here where I sent the guy streaming a request by clicking his name in the friends list then invite to crew: https://youtu.be/P2zcV8-oXY8?t=3140
Sadly the vid doesn't show fighter docking, he just left the crew at the end which means my NPC pilot took over and docked it for him.

Give it another go perhaps in a non-combat area so you can test things out, this is the best video I can find showing it but thats NPC + player not multicrew.:
