Multi-crew Role : Navigator

So I did my first boosted Neutron star jump last night. Was good getting nearly 200ly jumps, by it occured to me by the time I had actually flown to the star, got the boost, and then plotted a new course for a single jump, I could quite easily have made the 4/5 jumps to get to the new destination.

It occurred to me that with a Navigator would be very useful - while I fly around scanning a system, they could be finding me a new star system to jump to, or plotting the route after Ive boosted the FSD.

funnily enough that was one of the roles we were promised back when Multi-Crew was first tabled as "comming in the next release"...

pip my ride.

one of the first things i asked my friend to do in multi crew on launch was to plot a course .. my how it went down hill from there.

After playing a very enjoyable exploration session with some very nice multi-crew players joining my ship, it became quite clear that letting one of the non-helm crew members plan routes would be a more than natural option in this style of playing. Perhaps we don't need an explicit navigator role? With the new upcoming patch that allows the helm to pass certain permissions to the crew I imagine passing "route planning" to one crew member. Obviously a gunner would be a good person to do that because on long exploration trips a gunner does not get too much to do.
(By the way: When do we get the chance to walk around – especially in abandoned bases, the zurara or the generation ship… that would be creepy. Please do that too!)
