Multi-Limpet controllers are still lacking (make weightless/ammo)

I recognize that the intention of the new multi limpet controller was to not override the usefulness of the classic limpet controllers, however, that design philosophy went WAY too hard. There's very little reason to use the new controllers, especially when you're looking for something you can use with a streamlined ship.

I don't mind if the controller is less effective. I actually understand that design. However, having it be:
-Heavier
-Larger
-Less capable
-More expensive
ALL at the same time???

Pick one. Maybe two.
Less capable and more expensive I can understand and wouldn't give much guff. But I am forced to pass over the multi-controller because it can't justify itself for exploration.


SUGGESTIONS:
Make limpet controllers weightless. All of them. (Like an AFMU)
Make them use ammo (Again, like an AFMU)
Make the single purpose controllers more powerful than the multi-purpose. (last longer/go farther/quicker/whatever)

The combination would bring about a quality of life upgrade for just about everybody. The lack of weight would make them incredibly nice for exploration ships, and the difference on other non-explorer craft would be almost negligible. Ammo would introduce new meta for pirates, miners and explorers. (still synthesizable, just without filling cargo holds)

The amount of ammo used can vary by task. I am not experienced enough in the game to give hard numbers, but would like to see the community chime in for what the ammo numbers/amounts/usage would be. I would love to have a reason to have limpets in my build.
 
All the multi limpet controllers needed to be are lowest tier (equivalent to size 1) and with similar combined weights, e.g. the 3-type multi controllers would be about 5t, the 8-type universal could be about 15t (and available to size 5/6 slots - thereby enabling exploration ships). But each of their functions would only be as effective as a size 1 limpet controller or thereabouts. That would give everyone the ability to participate in gameplay to a low level and if they like that particular gameplay then they would know they should get a dedicated module fitout.

Actually you dont seem to recognize that, sorry if it sounds blunt...

Nope. There is lots of use for them, but without making the single controllers useless

3C MLC is extremely useful for small ships in Core mining - you dont need A-rated prospectors for that. And it is still useful in laser miners since it provides an extra 2 limpets in a size 3 slot.
It's useful as a generic collector in builds that are designed as material gatherers (although a 3B operations might be better)
3B Operations is useful in Megaship missions / looting
3B Xeno is good for explorers or for (who'd have guessed?) Xeno
And so on.


Even the 7A ULC are good for builds that can make use of them.
For example i was considering an exploration Conda that can pack everything on board (including 7A ULC, SLF, etc) and still jump 60+ light years
 
Hopefully fdev see this thread ....

... and realise the AFMUs should not be weightless :)

(and increase the 'conda hull mass while they are doing it 😈 )

I have noticed that too. Unfortunately people who have an upward stick in the middle of their chair to keep them propped up seem to need to comment on things saying "I can do fine with it, you aren't doing it my way so you're wrong."

If these were made weightless it wouldn't negatively effect their game, where it would make my experience much better.
