Multi-Role Commanders

So someone started his career , did some trading for credits to get a decent Explorer , explored for a while , then decided to go Bounty Hunting and bought a capable ship , got bored after getting to lets say Deadly Combat Rank and decided to try mining for a while or do other non-combat things to get the other ranks exploring and trading up.The problem i see here is that , after a certain Combat Rank has been achieved all other things someone can do , he is now meeting the buffed ai of upper ranks and facing enemies with engineer mods while flying a ship (lets say fitted for trade) thats not capable to fight like a true combat build and therefore has to run , deadly ai uses his modded ship and is much faster and will shutdown his ship with some special effect on his weapons.

The problem i see here is that you cant anymore "blaze your own trail" without being kicked in the balls by better ai with modded ships that spawn because of your achieved combat rank , making it basically impossible to do other things then fighting .

Discuss , how one should approach this dilemma? The only thing thats out of the question is resetting the save and starting from scratch.

What modified NPC ships have you seen in the last 48h?

What you cant do is run a "Pure" ship anymore

The days of running large unarmed unshielded ships is long on - you want to trade in a large ship basic take a note of the state and security of the system

Oh and turn back on the security response that we all turned off at day one

Two options:
1. Get a multi purpose ship capable of trading and fighting (Python/Anaconda).
2. Ask support to reduce your combat rank.

So i should give up a Rank i worked for hundreds of hours for? thats insane...

DID YOU EVEN LOOK AT MY SETUP ABOVE?

That's str@nge because NPC ships don't have engineer stuff any more since 2 days or so (only low class stuff). Sauce: update forum

Or just not have phoney "scaling" used in a game. High level mission payouts should have high level opponents and low for low.
Low security systems should have higher level opponents whereas high security systems should have a good mix of opponents, etc, etc

EDIT: This was in response to the post up two. Moving fast in here.

Why? Nobody forced you to grind your combat rank and nobody forced you to fly a shieldless T9.

EDIT sorry, didn't see your post about the Python...

If you cant beat a master dropship in that Python you dont deserve any rank above Mostly Harmless. Anyway, scaled AI is silly, hate it in TES too...

OMG YOU ARE SO UBER THAT YOU CAN POST SETUPS FROM 3RD PARTY TOOLS THAT ENTIRELY AND COMPLETELY VALIDATE YOUR RAMBLINGS.

On a serious note: Fittings is one thing, how you fly it is something entirely different.

I'm one of those multi-role players, and have not got any issue with what's going on...

Honestly, I'm not going to deny what other players are experiencing, but I do wonder what's *really* going on. I'm ranked dangerous/entrepeneur/ranger, and I've happily banged around in an exploration-fit asp and happily avoided interdiction by Elite vultures, Anacondas etc.. I have a multi-role python for BGS exploitation (has 128t cargospace, and no shield boosters, just for context) and handily dispatch people who come hunting me in the high-level trading missions, whether it's a mission-pirate hunting me, or just some random pirate noticing I have cargo.

I have no engineer upgrades save an upgraded FSD on my Asp. The one time I've been properly out-matched was a pirate lord in a 3m credit reward mission, which I thought was fair enough since i brought my multi-spec python along for the ride. I got knocked to 50-something% hull but comfortably fled.

Again, I'm neither saying "All these players need to 'git gud'." nor am I saying their lying about their experiences, but what I read makes me feel like I'm playing a completely different game to everyone else.

I've been keeping the game interesting for me by playing most roles. Right now I'm Dangeous, Ranger and Entrepeneur. No problems so far for me.

I'm not sure if the OP actually has had this problem or if this is him theorizing. I only meet 'scaled opposition' in combat-oriented places like RES, when I get interdicted flying from place to place it is usually by low ranked NPC's and even the stronger NPC's are only a real problem when engaging in them in combat, it's still reasonably easy to escape an interdiction or to jump away when I get interdicted.

I am still some what sceptical NPCs that come after you are based on your rank

My Cmdr just hit Expert after a few warzone missions after 2.1 dropped and I still run into everything from Mostly Harmless to Master out to get my cargo, or so they say in the comms, and even seen Deadly and elite when dropping in to Threat 0 ambushes, but on the same token, seen many Harmless NPC Piratces in Threat 1 Weapons Fired signal sources
Combat Zones I more worried about numbers on my side being stacked in my favour rather than actual ratings

Pretty sure when you take missions the PCs scale to the mission ranking, but I am not convinved the general background sim NPCs do

I do run a lot, but you can pick you battles, and try to just survive long enough for security to arrive.

that said ships have different strengths, this is my one so avoiding this might be a lot easier. Especially as some Engineering Blueprints get applied

That said Chaff might replace on of those Shield boosters, what you lose in shields you gain in misses
