Multi-Star systems.

A lot of systems have multiple stars with accompanying stations. In fact some don't have stations at all at the primary star. I found one that was 322,000 Ls distance with stations. In the manual the rationale for hyperjumps is they have to home in on the star in the system. Seems to me, in a multiple star system, you should be able to choose which star to jump to (or maybe being a noobie, I'm missing something) or hyper jump to the other stars in the system instead of supercruising for a ridiculous amount of real time.

This is a conversation that has been had quite a few times but it's unlikely to change. Your FSD jump drive targets the most massive star (gravity well) in the system and this is called the primary star by default. Although that does mean some stations are remote, many many, many aren't, so when you're choosing missions it's always worth checking the distance to station in the mission you're looking at, it's shown in the mission page even if you've never visited the system before.

You can get caught out - it's a game - but if you plan your route you can avoid it and some stations - notably Hutton Orbital in Alpha Centauri - have built their entire reputation on being a vast distance from the arrival point. Flying out there is rite of passage and anyone who does it is an Elite hero, fact. It's 0.22Ly and takes about an hour to get there. This might sound silly but really it just drives home, that space is actually a pretty big place. If you could just jump right there it wouldn't be.

Good Grief. Is that in SuperCruise or manual acceleration?

any EE doc smith fan gets an auto like👍

In game, I'm Cmdr Lensman Kinnison (Kim Kinnison was the Gray Lensman in the books)

Read those books the first time over 45 years ago... Read them again, maybe 15 years ago. Other favorite of course is the Foundation series.

edit> I thought of some other good names also... examples:

Sabata for a bounty hunter persona (from the movie)
Mule for a conqueror persona (from Foundation books)
Golan Trevize for a combo explorer/bounty hunter (from the 4th Foundation book "Foundation's Edge"

Feel free to scarf one up if you ever start over. :)

.......
been meaning to have a re read myself great fan as a kid

I re-read some of the Lensman books a couple of years ago and was surprised to find the actual prose-style felt very dated now, not as dated a feel as say Victorian novels but still significant. These were my favourite books as a kid in the late 50s so I was disappointed to find Triplanetary for example so dated.

Re the Foundation series (still one of my favourites) I have several times come across Hari Seldon flying an NPC ship - of course on those occasions when he was wanted as a miscreant I just couldn't find it in myself to pull the trigger. ;)

(There are very VERY many characters from Sci-fi flying NPCs in the game.)

But Hutton is the ONLY station that because it's SO far from the entry star. They give anyone and everyone who wish's to trade what ever they flew to Hutton a Brand New Never Been Utilize A Graded Anaconda. Kan't beet tat wit a stic.

ive been there dozenz of times I used to gather loads of delivery missions from sol at 4 to 6 mil a pop jump over set cruise watch episode of GOT then just arrive
every trip was a small fortune but you had to inintialy patiently re trawl the message boards for the same mission to respawn
