Multicrew - Is there a resource to make it more stable?

So with the Keelback getting a crew slot, and while I wait for some module transfers, I've been trying out multicrew again, and it still seems as unstable as when I first tried it. Trying to launch or dock fighters often results in being disconnected (...like really often), sometimes it seems like a specific fighter just doesn't work for anyone, and it's not just me, as the 2nd CMDR seat keeps filling and emptying with crashes too, if I'm lucky enough to get out in a fighter. Basically it's a crap shoot to actually get out there in a fighter, you're okay once you're there, but hope you better not ever have to dock again.

Trying to be a gunner has similar issues when taking or leaving the role, and it seems like a pain in the butt for the Helm to set it up so I'm not taking over their SCBs or other things they don't want.

Is this something I have any control over improving, or is it just the state of the feature right now? I've seem some people mention router/firewall config but haven't found a good guide for what ports are relevant or whether it really helps.
