Newcomer / Intro Multicrew (solo) question

I have a two seater (Adder) but cannot set either of my crew active. Why is this?

So i can invite another commander to fly shotgun, regardless of their piloting abilities? But only in open or p.g?.

Kind of difficult to have multiplayer in solo play.

Your multicrew cannot take the helm - you always have the helm unless you are manning a fighter station - ship AI or NPC crew helms your ship then.
