Multicrew + VR = <3

I had a go in a couple of multicrew sessions today. It was really fun to participate in it! Though the sessions has their disconnections and were not long, it was enjoyable. I still want to take more time with it, but I can see the VR Commanders really having a good time.

As an aside, it would be really beneficial to have bindable "chat macros" by which we can communicate efficiently and not require the need to raise the HMD to type. Just pushing a button to communicate "roger that..." or "on station" or whatever, would make much of the simpler tasks easier to complete.

I'd prefer voice, of course...but anyhow, for those who are interested in knowing how Multicrew will be in VR, I can say that I really found it fun. It makes for a different experience!

Has anyone else been using the Beta, multicrew and VR?

The game has builtin voice support, I was actually wondering how good it worked in MC groupings along side VR. Is there any way to test it on your end? esp. as it looks like this ain't gonna be ready for a while (with its connection issues), also would be curious to see if using voice would lead to bigger connection issues (more data to push).
Also, how many dropouts are you getting? like, how long can you generally play with no issues, are we talking days, hours, minutes? Cheers.

I've tried it with a couple of friends, and the only really frustrating thing is trying to actually get gunnery to work.

GF's X52 binds have all reset, other mate has no idea what binds are, and I have no idea what binds would be needed :D

Instead we just take turns in the DK2 and go "oooohhhh shiny!"

Also interested in how the in-built voice comms support handles it too. Voice would add extra load to the networking load... so I hope its not a case of "Roger that!" *CONNECTION DROPPED*

The frequency of dropouts is concerning - obviously FD will be trying to fix it. I won't be surprised if its a longer beta than normal.

Have spent the last few days inviting cmdrs into the "battle cow" Type 9,
Its been fun bugs aside but not many have keen on talking although I always have comms on just in case,
here's a stream from the other day before update 3 which has helped stability a fair bit, https://www.twitch.tv/videos/128252068 feel free to add me in game "Cmdr Paine" if you want a ride or need crew o7

Discord, TS etc.
Even in game voice coms are better than text.
You could also try macro functions to paste text into a coms window.

Also, an odd connection issue.

Since there are only room for a three man crew and no further wingmen (this is such a poor choice I can't fathom why fd didn't bunk the whole feature) I attempted to meethe them in game.
But whenever I came upon my buddies in crew I would see them on screen for half a second, then CTD.

After some further testing it seems to be: I could merge instance with the mc crew ship.
but whenever that ship would change instance, I would crash.
They would carry on np. I was staring at the desktop, or oculus living room.

Both crewmen seemingly idle seemed to help, but this could be circumstantial.

I don't use Voice Attack but there are a few threads on here showing how to use it to dictate directly into the comms system.

not as good as speech but a lot easier than typing blind.

For a lot of things like these common repeated phrases you don't need to do speech to text recognition, just a macro to open the coms, and insert a predefined blurb of text.

I had one before to fire "cutter coming through " into the local chat at busy instances.

Battle Cow! Hilarious!

My company operates a small TS Server here: DSD TS Server: derekspeare.typefrag.com | PW = dsdftw - we'll expand the capacity if there is demand for it.

I think voice is a must, and there are networking issues FD will have to remedy. Time will tell what happens, but I'd expect them to get it going.

Voice comms work great in MC. 80% of my play time in Elite is with a mate, we usually wing up or have voice comms open and rarely have any issues anymore. We can even open voice comms prior to inviting one or the other to multicrew and again suffer from no issues once the joining process has completed and voice comms are still active and working correctly.

My session with non voice users in MC have been a little disappointing, communications suffer quite a bit, I can touch type quite well but it can still be frustrating and removes the ability to real time spot with your crew.

It's quite impractical to try to access the keyboard when running a VR game. Not only is it a general pain, it breaks the immersion terribly.
