Multiplayer and first person controllable characters?

I love theme part building games, but one thing I always thought was missing, was truly experiencing my parks, and others' parks as a guest. Planet Coast is detailed enough to provide an immersive first person experience, so that gives me hope for my dreams to come true.

I am wondering if I will ever be able to experience a part and it's ride in a total first person experience as opposed to just a flying camera?

The idea of wandering around the park "in person" and either waiting in line, or using some kind of park creator VIP pass to skip the lines, would be awesome, especially with a VR headset like the Oculus or Vive.

Building on this, it would be amazing to show off my park, to my friends, and walk around and ride the rides with them. Seeing their reactions, messing around, and enjoying the rides together would be awesome.

For the player controlled character, nothing special is needed, a generic character with no customization is fine. The first person experience would trump the character's looks.

Are these ideas planned, already implemented, or even possible for the game?

There were two games that came out in the mid-2000's called "Thrillville," and its sequel "Thrillville: Off the Rails," which were (very restricted) theme park builders, but they also included a whole lot more, such as:
  • You could create your own character. RCT3 had this, of course, but most of the game was you wandering around as this character and interacting with other guests.
  • Guest interaction, was, for its time, incredibly in-depth. You could have full-on relationships with your virtual companions.
  • They had lots of arcade games and "flat games"(like mini-golf) that you could place in the park, and, upon placing them, you would be able to enter them and play them as a mini-game
  • Every shop was also a mini game, but they were all just bubble-popping games(that I can't think of the names of, sorry)

There were two main gripes people had with the series, the first being the incredibly limited park customization. Unlike RCT, Thrillville's parks were all mostly the same. They had 3 zones, each themed differently, and each zone contained three areas you could put flat rides, games, and stalls in, as well as three coaster stations. In other words, Each park could only have nine coasters. IIRC, you also couldn't place scenery, or I think you could only place it in the flat ride areas.

But I completely agree with everything you said. Having that ability to walk around and interact with people and play games and such like in Thrillville would be amazing.

Let's hope for the first person experience.
Right now we only have the camera view of guests, but i would also like to be able to control a character.
+1

Seems like there would be a lot to consider when making such a mode. Player NPC interactions, contextual limitations on movement and actions, modifying pathfinding to avoid the player character, as well as creating a whole new control scheme and interface. It's almost like making an entirely new game.

Well thats not very optimistic [tongue] maybe it could be the expansion?

I fear optimism is dangerous in some regards; my biggest fear is that the developers listen to too much of our suggestions, implementing things that either only a few want or are merely fleeting interests. I seriously doubt that even the OP would spend much time using this feature, as opposed to building their park.

If such an implementation was greatly time consuming, my hope is that Frontier never bother.

I disagree. The majority of the "hardcore" fans want to construct, but there is a very large market of gamers who would love to just play in First Person mode and get to experience other players creations entirely in First Person. I certainly hope they can achieve this, as with online multiplayer it could be a real blast to share the experience with friends.

What if they implemented the ability to play mini-games like games of chance that many amusement parks have. Imagine if you could play as a security guard and chase after your friends for vandalizing your park, of course the damage would not be permanent just for fun. Or what if they brought back the buggy car from RCT3 and let us go all destruction derby bumper cars all over our parks! It would be incredible [big grin]

Yes, but as was said before, the more complex you get with ideas like this, the harder it is to implement it. Adding in minigames and custom actions for the player character and multiplayer? All of this stuff requires them to code additional features. Multiplayer in and of itself is a royal pain to implement, especially with so many moving parts to keep track of. They'd have to design and code every minigame and make just about everything in the park "playable." That is a massive undertaking that would be up there with just developing a park builder/manager. I think you'd be looking at an expansion or DLC at best. It's the kind of thing they would likely have to bring in additional income to justify implementing.
