Multiplayer concepts and thoughts

This is my first post on the forums so I apologize if I skip any previous posts, or repeat concerns or ideas already in talks. Also, I’m speaking from a strictly casual player point of view and offer no insult to anyone who makes their own way through Elite Dangerous on their own and who also have no issue with any or all of the suggestions I bring up.

To kind of give some context to the thought process I had coming up with the ideas, my brothers and I play games together and we look for anything that has a strong co-op factor. Elite dangerous unfortunately does not tick this box but has been improving. We’re all grown and live in different states so this compels us when choosing games to invest time and money into.

So first, why not come up with a separate line of missions that specifically demand more than one Commander to complete? They could be basic missions at first like pirate hunting, but escort missions for cargo or passengers would be great as well.

Another idea we had was sharing the bounty of missions and increasing the complexity of the missions when shared. It might work something like this, if I’m logged into open play and I find missions that I cannot complete or would just like to share with my wing, I could open the rewards to be shared with the pilots. What happens if they disconnect or quit on the mission before it completed? There could be a milestone timer added to the mission that would calculate the share earned by any of the pilots, and if the designated pilot who received the mission failed or disconnected then the mission would either suspend or automatically fail, as they already do in some cases.

We also thought of exploration as a team effort. Why not develop missions that require several scans of specific beacons, either on the planet surface or in a system that was so time sensitive that it needed to be completed by more than one commander? Working in tandem to complete the missions might add a depth to the game, or galaxy, on the multiplayer level we currently cannot experience?

I don’t want to make a post too long for anyone to read and constructively critique so I’ll cut it short there, we had a couple more ideas but we also thought how we like elite dangerous for what it is right now, a seemingly simple game with depth for the player to explore but not too alienating. We know there are other games currently out that offer much different experiences for multiplayer teams but elite dangerous is the most comfortable and we don’t want to change it too much.

Some good ideas here. There has been talk about adding wing missions for a while now. It is likely we could see them next year.
