Multiplayer is missing in action..

First off, i love the game- cant get enough time in the day to play it.

however (Yep i knew you were expecting that), a friend and i decided to hook up last night and go do some exploring and bounty hunting together and found it is just not viable or easy right now.

here were the problems that made it less than it should be.
-Could not drop out of supercruise together at the same location
-could not drop out at the same USS instance and find each other
-Generally found it very hard to find each other unless close (which was hardly ever)
-could not fly in formation because we could not lmatch speeds or tether
-no easy way to see other players location without hitting escape and going to friends list
-There are no shared missions.



I am one of the believers that there is no "Super patch" on the 16th and what we see now is what we get, so i think this is a major oversight. These futures may be coming in the future i am sure, but that's not what it needs to be for a successful launch unfortunately.

Let me say to those that saw the recent multiplayer demo from the launch party of the players coming to help someone fight a capital ship, this was 100 percent staged and is not actually even possible to do with the current multiplier system, a brilliant piece of marketing for sure, but that's it.

The other thing i find amusing is that single player offline was removed to allow for a "Dynamic Multiplayer system", problem with that statement is that there actually is no Multiplayer systems at all.

I hope this stuff comes sooner rather than later, as i cannot wait to fly with a wingman...
 
I keep seeing people complain about not being able to help with interdictions or meet up in space by dropping out of cruise together. Is this not what low energy signatures are for when people drop out of cruise? Just lock on and follow them in.
 
Agree completely with Pryzm.

The only sense of flying together is leaving a base at the same time. (Which reminds me, optional Rear view Mirrors or cameras please.. :) )

I'm hoping that now that FD have dropped the offline mode they can focus on Multitplayer/Co-Op, and introduce Formation Flying and Linked Frame Drive systems.

Also shared missions is a must.

Even if they don't fully implement all the features we want the formation flying/slaving FSD's will be an important part of play.
not just for Co-op style play but also for trading, it makes alot more sense to get a convoy together for collective protection of high value cargo over many lightyears
 
I am missing those mentioned features a lot, too. Frontier knows they are missing, and though we do not know the reasons why they are not in yet, I am pretty sure that they are on top of their to do list. David Braben repeated this several times when asked. So, I guess a little more patience is in order.

I did not expect them to launch the game this early, anyways. I just treat it as another beta iteration and trust that the complete feature set will be in sometimes mid-next year. Until then, I am already haveing a blast with a fully playable game... better than waiting without having a game, it is! :D

Two people end up playing co-op. and it was easy.

indeed it is, i play with a few mates and we have no problem joining each other in 'out of super cruise' area's, to OP: you know you can drop out at each others FSD wakes right? just lock it and get within 1km the same with any other station, site etc etc and hey presto you are together, dont need a wake scanner, those are for the high intensity wakes - ergo chasing someone.

to be brutally honest, the game does need more on the social aspect and some form of grouping/wing system where your 'wingmen' are highlighted on the radar different to all other contacts aswell as a few other much needed systems like a group chat option for buddies and the like, but solid bear-bones multiplayer is there, and is hell of alot of fun

everyone, to be honest the game needs to explain this better, i have seen many people being frustrated with playing with friends and not being informed of this ability with the mechanics, with it being open to everyone, makes for some fun times indeed

I had assumed that the co op stuff was completely broken from reading the forum, and then I watched that exact Isinona video last night.

We're getting to the point now were there needs to be some general documentation for this stuff, even a sticky thread might be helpful.

I've tried this a couple of times without any success.
It was more like "Hey presto, you're alone in deep space." :p

Nice to get a "Safe to disengage" alert, like the station approach alerts.
Or do they?

Maybe I'm moving too fast, need to slow it down a bit.
 
now this type of video shows how fun multiplayer dogfighting with your friends vs the NPCs is!... This needs to happen soon!
 
I agree completely with you, we do need a multiplayer funcion, more now than before, beacause we lost the single player (offline) mode, so this is now what they call a MMO (i know you can still play solo but that's not the point) also Barben stated in one of the first video in kickstarter program that we would have been able to form wings and hen travel alongside with uour friends to do what we want, so, what i would like to see is a possible, just an approximate date, not with day and hour, but like "in 2 months...." we'll have wings working, i think that at this point is the most important feature of the game. we bought this game to play on the internet, we bought this game in a website, getting (in most of the cases) the digital copy, we really need multiplayer, the sooner, the better, for us, and for FD, if you like the game, you'll tell your friends, they will buy the game to play with you (at least the trap i set up for 2 of my best friends was this, shame there is no wing feature yet tho...)
