Multiple Animal Habitats?

Hi! I had an idea to start a zoo with strictly multi-species habitats and was wondering if any of you have done anything or have some cool ideas with multiple species! I don't mind interspecies bonus' of course but I don't want to only go by that!

I think bears are a cool one to mix.
Ive seen brown bears together with wolves and red foxes and spectacled together with various different south american animals.
Idk if those would fight in game tho
I think I remember trying brown bears & wolves in game and it didn't work out. Even tho I've seen it work in real life (Pairi Daiza/Belgium)

I wouldn’t say it “works” there’s a infamous video online of bears mauling a wolf because they shared a habitat in captivity

Yeah there ofcourse is a risk. But thats true for most interspecies habitats, like there are also multiple videos of giraffes kicking other animals in their enclosure. And one unfortunately placed one can easily take out an ostrich for example

True of course. But I think animals that are natural “adversaries” in nature should be avoided. There’s many more example of herbivores sharing habitats because naturally in the wild they wouldn’t mind being around each other.

Well yeah fair haha. I wouldn't place them together myself in real life, but that's just me. Then the game is pretty realistic because I think the bears went on to attack the wolves in game too.

One I like that doesn't have the interspecies bonus is hippo's & flamingo's. They are pretty unbothered with eachother, you just need a big space.
Does this pairing exist IRL? I would love to do it to remind me of my zt2 days but I try to be realistic with what real life zoos are doing in this game.

I´ve never heard of them sharing a habitat in any zoo, but in the wild they seem to life pretty close together. I would say realistic enough haha, but that´s up to you! Also have the same ZT2 nostalgia ;)

I love mixing African Crested porcupines with either meerkats or warthogs like John Ball Zoo and the Indianapolis Zoo do irl!

Also, to make mixed African hoofstock paddocks more interesting, I like to mixed species based on geographic location. Like mixing retic giraffes, Thomson’s gazelles, sable antelopes, blue wildebeest, and lechwes to make an east African exhibit. Then for south Africa, something like white rhino, gemsbok, springbok, zebra, and nyala. You could totally do a North African one too, with wild asses, camels, addax, dama gazelles, and scimitar-horned oryxes. Ostriches fit well in all of them too.

Top tier post right here. This is an idea I had for a while and you made it ten times easier for me thanks

Does anyone know if there are any canids you can mix together in the game at all? Or if you can mix hyenas and canids? The only ones I tried were Arctic Wolves and Timber Wolves because they're subspecies of the same species and they attacked and almost killed each other so I had to separate them into 2 separate enclosures. I did manage to make it look like they were in the same enclosure in one of my zoos by using a null barrier fence though. However, they're not really together. I just have an invisible fence separating 2 separate enclosures smooshed together. I haven't tried Arctic Wolves and Arctic Foxes yet. Not sure how that would go.

Pairs I wanted to try (not including modded animals):
North America and/or Europe Temperate and/or Tundra Environment pairs:
Arctic Wolf + Timber Wolf (Tried. Almost killed each other.)
Arctic Wolf + Arctic Fox
Arctic Wolf + Red Fox
Arctic Fox + Red Fox
Arctic Fox + Timber Wolf
Red Fox + Timber Wolf
African and/or Middle East Desert and/or Grasslands Environment pairs:
African Wild Dog + Fennec Fox
African Wild Dog + Red Fox
African Wild Dog + Spotted Hyena
African Wild Dog + Striped Hyena
Fennec Fox + Red Fox
Fennec Fox + Spotted Hyena
Fennec Fox + Striped Hyena
Red Fox + Spotted Hyena
Spotted Hyena + Striped Hyena
Asian Temperate and/or Tropical pairs:
Red Fox + Striped Hyena
Dhole + Red Fox
Dhole + Timber Wolf
Dhole + Striped Hyena
Australia
Dingo + Red Fox

Oh nice, happy i could help! Forgot about the black wildebeest (and probably others lol), but they dont don't well in mixed habitats anyway from what I've heard.

While exploring the internet I found some combinations of habitats in zoos that could serve as inspiration for yo
In the other hand I did a thread some time ago with some pictures of mixed habitats

Also some of my favorite mixes in game are

• African Elephant with the hoofstock crew
• AS Donkey + A Bison + Proghorn + Collared Peccary + Praire dogs + Skunks + Armadillo
• Hamadrayas Baboon + Black Rhino
• Babirusa + Pangolin
• Capybara + Swam + Lemurs
• Wisent + Markhor + Fallow Deers
• African Elephant + Cheetah
And more...

Here's a fun combo to make:

  • American Bison/Wisent
  • Saiga
  • Pronghorn
  • Przewalski's Horse
  • Dromedary Camel
I think these all have compatible terrain requirements, and it makes for a really fun habitat that's reminiscent of the mammoth steppe

I was wondering, since the male elephant in zoos is mostly separated from the herd, does that work out in a bit larger exhibit with cheetah/hyena/african wild dog?
