multiple character starter locations

Not for reservation, I don't think. Just for use I guess.

Methinks you be right. The kickstarter name is just there to ensure you have the name you want. Any other names will still be subject to being not used by anyone else, it's just that you won't be able to reserve them.

I wish I had the time to develop more than one character. :(

I'll be starting as trader to upgrade my ship, then probably mixture of trader/bounty hunter.

Yes me too ... I wish I could play more than one character :(
I will only play a trader ... if I got more time to play I would play an explorer or a bounty Hunter ;)

You can play multiple characters ( number to be decided, but I think Michael said it will be at least 3) But you can only log in as one character, per account at any one time.

In that case, I hope the connections will be IP locked... I'm not quite sure I want to see multi-boxing in that game.:(

This may help.

* More than one person can have a commander, so family members can get in on the act (of course, to play at the same time you'd need two accounts, but this is still - I think - a benefit. Personally I like to think that multiple commanders allows additional players to dip their toes and hopefully progress into obtaining additional accounts.)

Have no fears.

Hu... well, it's not really about obtaining multiple accounts, since the game has no monthly subscription attached to it... so we could see a transport with fighter escort controlled by one player.

It's certainly possible, but unless that player has some amazing ambidextrous skills, they'll only be really flying one ship properly.

Well, that depends... if there are automated turrets, then one could fly two Anacondas (straight line from point A to point B) and a Viper as an escort... not too hard.

...just an example, of course, I bet the true EVE multi boxers can think of more. ;)

We're likely to see ISPs rolling out carrier grade NAT during ED's lifetime. In fact, depending on which markets ED is launched in, it may be even be an issue at launch.

Right now, ISPs generally give each household a single IP address. That means IP locking can stop someone logging in from two machines at once, but as Cathy says also stops two members of a household logging in together. But because we're running out of IP addresses, Carrier-grade NAT might assign a single address to a street or a whole town - now IP locking would be way too restrictive.

The long-term solution is to upgrade every computer on the Internet to IPv6, but that won't happen until ISPs make it out of the "denial" stage of the problem.

BTW, what exactly is the objection to a player logging in from two machines at once?

Last Thursday my eldest and his friend spent much of the day logged into the same game with laptops side by side on the desk (their teachers were on strike and once homework was done they were in the land of bliss). They had more fingers and thumbs between them than a single player logging twice, and were therefore more accomplished, yet I can't see how they hurt anyone else's gameplay as a result.

Looking at the backers app you can. where you have Gift 1 and Gift 2 you can choose a digital copy of the game for the princely sum of £25. I assume that this would require a new account to play with so if someone really wanted they could in effect gift additional copies of the game to themselves.

I have no objection... yet... but should the games systems be somehow exploitable by one person using multiple accounts at once, people will do it sooner or later... just a concern.

decided to go all in on the one account rather than split the pledge in to 2 accounts after the helpful feedback provided here.

Thanks for advice :)

ok thanks for info....

hold on a sec... it could become confusing... let's say you're a federal trader and you get to know a player called Commander Braben and he's a federal trader like yourself and he's always chilled and friendly but one Friday night when he's been to the pub with his work colleagues and he's all tanked up and he logs on with the same name and you happen to see him and you approach his ship to say hello but this time he's in a Cobra firing missiles at you acting like a pirate terrorist from hell. I guess that would be confusing.

Someone with the same name. One is a pirate and the other a pacifist trader.

Your comment is relevant. Your character, whatever the session in which you play, will not have a unique personality. As in real life, people have multiple personalities. At work they are serious people in the evening, they are exotic while partying, one day they are friendly, the next day unpleasant. One day they are explorer to pick up mushrooms. The next day they are trader to sell their mushrooms, and if they not have of mushrooms, they steal mushrooms, at another person. Personally, I would not be shocked if in the game, I met a commander with multiple personality, who one day said "hello" and the next day asked my cargo. ----But it is nevertheless a little incoherent relative to the history of each session, and overall history. So the ideal would be indeed a unique name of Commander, per session.

I see where you're coming from here, however I suspect that personally I'll try to use my 'outside voice' at least when dealing with the unwashed masses. Certainly in other MMOs my Characters name has meant something. Not just to me, but to the server. Even on a bad day, I can't see myself flip flopping and suddenly be shooting noobs hanging round the starter planet...
