PvP Murder Hobos!

Last night I got interdicted in my DBX by some pirates in uber class ships that we're no doubt looking for easy opals as I was completing a run... From Maia with some meta alloys for some noob friends. Sorry guys, not the profit you were drooling over.

I thought the whole thing was funny and started faffing around, boosting at the mighty pirate ships in my spare parts built DBX. They decided to kill me. [rolleyes]

One of them advised me that I should just submit next time... yawn It's not like I don't have a +1000 rebuys for a DBX. Then they sent me a friends request, sorry I have enough pirates and murder hobo's on my list right now, but if an opening happens I'll be sure to get in touch! They also sent me a link to their website, and offered to help me get meta alloys, gee, what swell bunch of murder hobos they are! It's so nice that they offered to make those long, tedious jumps for me... All 8 them. Now if I was in my FAS with a 14ly jump range like the first time I did it... Maybe, mostly just so I don't have to smell the burning paint every time I scooped!

So I spawned in the same system after the rebuy, went into supercruise and told them they could kill me anytime as I had plenty of rebuys... I thought the whole thing was a bit on the funny side. It didn't bother me in the least... I'm not sure what they were trying to prove. It was a minor inconvenience to me and my noob friends who didn't get their tickets to pole dancing Felicity.

On the flip side, I'm sure they were amazed at their combat prowess and ability to stamp out a mighty foe such as myself. I know they must have puffed out their chests at the mere thought of how quickly I died and the pain they inflicted on my bank account. And so magnanimous in their hard won victory, offering friendship and no doubt guidance to the errant and luckless commander who fell to their sharp claws...

The funny thing is that even had I been in my Keelie with a fresh load of shinies I still wouldn't care. I would likely take them on with 2 multi cannons and awesome abrasion blaster. Think I'm nuts? No, for me the fun is in finding and mining... Profits are icing on the cake and I think it's more fun depriving pirates of their livelihood so, yes, I will attack. I have plenty of friends to give my largess to, pirates be dammed. Particularly if you're running in a wing of uber ships. A single pirate... Maybe. If you ask real nice I might take pity on your starving children.

So that's the state of the game... Money for mining and Anacondas Cutters for free... If you have the rank. Which I do and have no desire to own one. I have a Corvette, which I trot out every now and then, thinking I'm going to engineer a PVP monster. Only to remember, after wasting more mats on some half thought out excuses of an upgrade, that I think PvP is pretty worthless. I like flying, I like combat. I don't care for the uber ships and managing SCBs and the like or digging into the minutiae of what makes a good combat ship for PvP... Maybe someday... Or maybe not.

This pirate applauds your summary of events and the fact you aren't turning a role play interaction into the end of ED as we know it.

I must say, it puzzles me as well. Been shot down 18 times since I started to keep track. In all occasions, I fight the interdiction, lose, cut throttle and spam the comms. No interdictor can claim they needed to hurry up with sploding me in fear of high waking or menu logging. Still, the result is always the same. Pew pew pew, on a stationary T-6 or T-7 until splodey time.

It really makes me wonder. Is this the emergent content I hear so much about? Is this the level of interaction these people can come up with. No banter or anything like that. People claim the old ADS-honk system was boring. Holding the fire button for 5 seconds until the desired result. Which is very much like what these guys are doing.

Mind, it's not that I'm saying this sort of interaction is mandatory.

They are probably trying to compensate for some other real life inadequacy.

Maybe your reputation precedes you?

In any case, since void opals are a thing, there is far more 'legit' piracy than before. People who gank are still going to unfortunately.

Dire Straits reference? Now I can't get that song out of my head...

Oh well, sincerely I can't understand what's the point here but... consider that Pirate NPC behaviour is the same.

PvP Piracy in ED (even with the new high-pay ores) is done mainly for RP reasons, for interaction as it requires effort, dedication and from a pure reward/time perspective (net of rebuys, bounties/fines) is not paying that much... I mean, we do like to play as pirates because we do like to act such that in the game exactly as I like to play as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. I believe any pirate (solo/squadron) does have a "code" for his/her behaviour [as we, Dark Marauders, have and it's publicly available].

In general, if CMDR doesn't comply I go after him with hatch breakers, but if I don't have them on board, I try to damage the cargo hatch (eventually blocking FSD with Grom bombs or equivalent tools). At the end of the day, as a pirate I look for the cargo. It may happens that non compliant CMDRs are blown up in the process (and I have been always available to deal with them if txt'd or after receiving complaints and even insults.. no prob at all, it's a game after all).

If CMDRs open fire even before I am able to communicate my intentions... so I take it as it's ok to make some phew-phew all together.

At the end of the day, a pirate doesn't not (and will not) behave as what you define as a "murder hobo".

Unless they're going out of their way to be friendly in comms, the post-gank friend request thing is just the icing to their griefing cake.

I'm all for PVP, 'emergent content', factional conflict, and RP, but when it's obvious a person just wants to annoy, it's time to add to the block list.

Err, no. It is just an offer. If you like PvP, you can add them. If not you can ignore it (or block them).

Gives me an idea for PvP. Can you destroy my ship faster than I can self destruct? Don't think I could be bothered with the time a PvP battle takes so that might be the quickest way to the station.

Piracy I agree is different. I've no problem with a little donation to travel through someone's space.

Yeah, it's been "emerging" since I've been playing the game... Longest birth cycle I've seen...

They did try and communicate... I was too busy faffing off and having a good time to notice. So they decided to make an example of me. Yeah, 980,000,000 in the bank and a 1 million credit rebuy if you include the meta alloys. Oh, and those painful 16 jumps round trip to Maia and back. [rolleyes]

I think it's payback time... Load up an interdictor on a fast ship and annoy the hell out of them. Sounds like fun. Anybody wanna join in?

To some people, you're just another NPC.

How degrading!

The NPCs must be outraged that you dragged them so low with that implication!!!

Sorry man, I feel your pain!

Wait a minute! I'm supposed to be making a point!!! What's wrong with making the odd ramble around the English language even if I butcher it up with 'Mericanisms and mispronounced words or bad spelling and grammar. Why you should see what I can do to other languages!

No sir, the next thing you'll want is facts and statistics... Followed by videos and such. No, we are not going down that sordid path!

If they are running a proper PvP ship and your not running good shields/armor... Then no. You'll pop pretty quick. Best to let them do it so they can bask in their notoriety!

Makes me wonder what people are thinking too. I mean, Ziggy, if I ever interdict you feel free to do your thing. If you’re not wanted, I’ll send you a nice message!
