Music to explore by

Pink Floyd - The Endless River. Awesome album. If you have a streaming service, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

What are your favourites?

If you have Spotify, there's a couple of playlists that I keep coming back to:

70s FM Radio Rider
and
The Robot Run

Since getting Spotify, I've discovered all sorts of new (to me) stuff that I really enjoy....exploration gives me plenty of time to listen too. One of these discoveries is Pale Green Ghosts - an album by John Grant. When I first listened to it, I thought it was very weird and fairly awful, but second and third time around its gotten under my skin and I love it.

Here's some other songs that I'd not heard before, and have come to love...

I know what I am - Band of Skulls
Elenore - Flo & Eddie
Life's Been Good - Joe Walsh
Pound the Alarm - Nicki Minaj (!)
Frankenstein - The Edgar Winter Group
Make me believe in you - Curtis Mayfield

Being something of an omnivore I'll try to keep to what I listen to most often, or things I come back to.

That is all for now, hopefully something strikes a chord. N.B: Some albums are harder to come by, especially in the case of HW:Cataclysm given there never was one, and with the source being lost there is at the moment of writing no hope of a remaster with a soundtrack release.

If you're a metalhead like me, but want to explore without hearing screaming that really just kill the atmosphere, try Cloudkicker. He has a good mix of soft/atmospheric rock and more heavy tracks, all instrumental.

Alternatively, for the dubstep fans, try Blackmill!

I'm a big Peter Hammill / Van der Graaf Generatir fan so here are some of their songs relevant in either title or lyrics:

Peter Hammill
- EarthBound
- Event Horizon
- The Future Now
- Paradox Drive
- Planet Coventry
- Red Shift
- Solitude
- Still in the Dark
- Sunshine
- The Comet, The Course, The Tail
- Time to Burn

Van der Graaf Generator
- Darkness
- Pioneers over c
- Sci-finance
- Ship of Fools

Floyd are an excellent choice although I much prefer their pre Wall albums.
Alternatively there is also Roy Buchanan Fly Night Bird, Alpha By Vangelis, The Horrors Get Carter, Led Zep Kashmir, Benson Arizona by Bill Tayler & John Carpenter, Riders On The Storm By The Doors and to finish off Jigalong By Peter Gabriel. Thats enough to be getting on with but I have a ton of others. ;)

I'm surprised that there was only one of Holst's "Planets" mentioned. The others are great too, and have had a major influence on the part of sci fi / movie music that is done in a classical style e.g. Star Wars. I think a bit may have been picked up by whoever wrote the ED soundtrack as well...

Tune in to the eh, exciting new site of, uh, Wikipedia which will stream you what is apparently a free recording of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Planets

Plus, anything by PDQ Bach

Ooops, turns out the wikipedia recording kinda sucks. Well, it must be available else where too.

My all time favorite music to meditate to the stars and the (in)significance of the human element of the infinite cosmos.

I just pop on Radio Sidewinder while I'm out in the black...not only do they have great tracks for playing Elite, but there's also the GalNet news updates to keep me informed while I'm far out from the bubble.
