Musk Deer

I recently was reading about musk deer amd learned that they aren't actually deer, but in the bovidae family (or is it group? I get confused with taxonomy).

Anyways, I learned of 7 species:

  1. Black/dusky musk deer - It is found in Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal

  2. Kashmir musk deer - found in Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan

  3. Dwarf/Chinese forest musk deer - found in Vietnam and China

  4. Anhui musk deer - found only on the Anhui province of China
  5. Alpine musk deer - found in the Himalayas
  6. White-bellied musk deer - also found in the Himalayas
  7. Siberian musk deer - found in the northern mountainous forests of Asia. This is the one we typically think of

Ok, so, how would y'all feel if we got these? Also, wouldn't it be cool to get these and real deer in 1 pack?

I had no idea these were not true deer. Yeah, I'd be good with one of them added in. It definitely gives some visual variety. And now I want to see a Muscle Deer. But I guess that's the Moose
What, ya'll didn't know that they weren't true deer? Yep, they're all placed just outside the group, in their own little family called Moschidae.

Would love one of these little guys; love those fangs. The Siberian Musk Deer appears to be the most common and widespread of the group; if any get added, that one makes the most sense.

Nope. Had no idea.

I think these would be the cool, "obscure" animal we'd get in some endangered pack or Asia pack.

Out of curiosity, what biome tags would they have? Taiga and temperate, right?

Not sure... the one at Columbus Zoo lived in a grassy enclosure... but then, so did anything else not living with water, dirt or concrete...

Wikipedia says "Musk deer live mainly in forested and alpine scrub habitats in the mountains of southern Asia, notably the Himalayas" so definitely Taiga... possibly temperate.

I would love to see musk deer - the Siberian especially, as that is the species kept in Europe (there are still some in America but last I heard the intention was to move all of them to Europe to ensure at least somewhere can keep them going).

One particularly interesting thing about them behaviourally, which could be represented in Planet Zoo, is that they will climb up trees growing on a tilt - they can climb up to four metres off the ground and do so to feed on lichens.
