Ships Must I keep Chieftain ? About progression strategy

Hi there,

I'm looking forward news ships. And I know I won't be able to do ingenering on all of them :D Moreover, money will be an issue. Today I have a Chieftain for BH. I want to buy a Python for passengers to replace my Dolphin (and go to Robio to farm missions). And later, I want to buy an Anaconda. With all its module and flexibility, the Conda will be able to BH and in the same time do some exploration and cargo. So will the Chieftain be still usefull? I wonder if it is intelligent to use ressources to improve her.

Thx for advices.

ALL ships are useful.

Keep/use as many as you want to and swap and change as much as you feel like. Credits will come with time....don't worry about them...

As a medium ship the Chieftain shares a lot of modules (FSD, shields, power ...) with the Python, Krait mk2 (and Phantom), Challenger and so on, so keep the Chieftain but fit it with stock modules and use the engineered ones in the new ship.

Also check out the class 5 double engineered FSD https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/rare-goods-required-for-galactic-summit.565468/ it's free but does cost in mats but it's well worth having as it adds around 9% additional jump range

It's probably not worth using the double engineered FSD in the chieftain. It would take mine from 24.5 to 27LY. Which sure, it's technically more but it's still not a ship which is good at jump range (because it's stuffed with hull reinforcements).

And since its best use is as a combat ship you can just stash it near the likely combat zones and hop into it when required.

Credits won't be a problem. Your money bag will just keep growing.

When you sell a ship you lose 10% of the total value of the ship plus modules. Wherease selling modules off seperately you get 100%.

If you decide to sell a ship make sure you sell off the modules separately first. And store the engineered modules for future ships. Certain engineered modules easily transfer to any ship, like wake scanners, and surface scanners. And lots of ships share the same size FSD. Modules like these usually are given the same engineering effect regardless of the ship role.

Keep it, great ship, one of my favorites.
This build is like a template for early pve combat build, given to me by experienced cmdr when I was in your shoes. It's G3 engineering, you can dance with any npc, armor gives you enough time to wake out if things go bad.
Now, my g5'd PvE and PvP Chiefs don't different much from this initial builds, fast biweave shield, bunch of armor, and weapon loadout can be almost whatever you want, great fun😁
My favorite pve loadout is 6a biweave shield, fast charge, low draw; lightweight reactives, deep plating; 1 heavy duty booster, 3 resist augmented ; guns all overcharged mc's, 1 small corrosive 1 small emissive, 3 incendiary, 1 autoloader. Optionals all hrp hd deep plating and 2 mrp.

Fun😁
Imagine Apocalypse Now, Ride of the Valkyries scene.... That's Chieftain.
I love assassination missions where I drop in on elite Vette with 3 elite vultures in wing. I just turn on above mentioned classical piece and let the dakka dakka begin😁

OK thx. I will keep the Chieftain, maybee equiped her with AX weapons when needed. And I will skip Python to go straight to the Conda. :)

Don't skip Python either, great ship also, very versatile. For me best medium trader, best medium miner, I even have Python for deep space exploring, with 55ly jump and all explo tools and toys.
Didn't try combat(build) with it, but 2 large frags and large beam on my laser mining build kept me safe from pirates every time.

I have Anaconda, rarely use it. Only to fast jump to engineers with modules needed to upgrade.

Python is jack-of-all-trades.

I'm afraid to leave the Python when I'll have the Conda. My aim is to carry maximum ressources for squad mining mission (but when you buy ressources from nearby station instead of mining).

You fly open or solo/pg? If not in open, type 9 is your thing for hauling, not so expensive, hauls more cargo than Conda, same agility (none😁).

Edit: and often best missions or commodity prices are on outposts, medium pads, no parking Conda or type 9 there, so Python is the truck for that.
