Mutations Wishlist

A fur hobbyist made this chart of wolf variations and I think having this many would make big packs much more visually interesting

I would be soooo excited to have such diversity in Planet Zoo ! And for the wolves, well, they could focus the lighter variations for the arctic wolf, and the darker ones for the timber wolf, so that people who bought the DLC won't feel as if they gave money for nothing ?

I am really curious to see what will be the colors variations already in preparation, but real mutations like these, for horns, the colors of peafowls and all would truly be amazing and add to the authenticity and the beauty of the game !

Also, I'd love to see lion manes like this

I read somewhere that most lions in the wild don't have full nice lush manes. It gets ripped out in the brush or fights, tangled and matted, etc. The nicer the mane, the stronger and more prominent that males position. Maybe we could have two varients for size. One for the alpha and one for the beta.

Yea,I'm in the same boat,I don't know how difficult it would be to implement a randomizer in Planet Zoo or if it would be even possible at all.Fact is it would make every individual animal of African Wild Dogs,Gray Wolves etc. literally visually unique and the chance of having two indentical animals would be extremely low.
We are most likely thinking about the same game and because of that I'm very confident that Frontier could make that feature even better.

Or even a simpler option of having the parents have 1-2 of a possible 10 random things. When they have young the offspring inherits one or both of the parents overlays. This would follow the genetic coding they're introducing. This means each animal would be slightly different, but siblings from the same parents would still bear a family resemblance. For added realism, each overlay could be dominant or recessive. Hidden or exaggerated by the combination of another given overlay.

With lion manes, it varies greatly based on location. Most lions in NA and European zoos have full manes due to diet, healthcare, and in many cases, climate.

But those are tame lions. They would be cared for and there would be less opportunity for the mane to be damaged or ripped out. Not sure about climate, but if two males are kept together and one is a beta, the other male would still have the lion's share (pun intended) of food and the beta will still be swatted more. Maybe not in a bachelor group, but in a mixed group with one vying for mates. They would still be cared for, but one might still look better than the other.

How would you code that tho? Maybe there can be a system of domination where subs have lighter and smaller manes. And in a zoo, you wouldn't see the greatly battered and beaten lions you see trudging around Africa.

I don't mean they should look really tattered... Just in game they can have scars if they're in a battle and then one is an alpha and one is a beta. There could be an overlay attached to the alpha status that made it's mane a bit bigger. The same as the scars, but specific to the alpha status. If that same animal with the bigger mane is demoted to beta, the overlay is removed and his mane goes back to normal. Or in reverse where the overlay is added to the beta to make it smaller.
