A bit of a first world problem this but

Unfortunately I am finding the Engineers to be somewhat immersion breaking. Not the Engineers themselves, they're great, but the fact they are meant to be a rather illusive secret; a small collection of mavericks, known by only a few... But so many (AI) commanders seem to be in the know! Everyone seems to know and have access to those engineers!

The reason AI commanders with specialised modules etc. breaks immersion for me is, if you think about the size of the galaxy and how frequently you see AI commanders, with specialised modules, those engineers would be up well and truly up to their neck in orders to meet all those needs! Multiple thousands per day surely!

Solutions, either:

Allow only CMDRs to have contact to engineers

Allow only Elite or Dangerous/Elite AIs to have access to specialised modules

Suggest the exclusivity of the Engineers is just a tease and make their ports REALLY busy.

How do other people internally explain the engineers?

Thanks!

They use thermal impulse attacks? I thought you could only get those from engineers?

Or can you get thermal etc weapons anywhere?

They don't use enhanced drives now then?

My bad!

The Devs - READ YOUR MIND! ;)

Yeah sorted for now and from my outing last night the AI are still tough at the higher levels but feels a bit better now.
Managed to kill a Master DBS in my semi combat ASP but boy did he take a bite out of me. Limped away with 12% Hull. Really felt like we were taking chunks out of each other, then both away for a bit of recovery and then back for more. Proper duelling. I think in that load out Master is all I can take on, though if it was a better ship then maybe I would run. Loving that decision making process.

After Tuesday's server side update, I think the AI balance is pretty good now. Never did get hit by insta-death weapons so can't comment on that. I managed to pick up a fairly large wanted bounty (don't ask), and have been getting interdicted quite a bit. Just got interdicted by an Elite Cobra, I'm elite combat rank flying A rated FAS. Well the fight lasted about 5 minutes and was really great fun. Didn't need to use any SCB's, but used a fair number of missiles when he deployed chaff. Came away with one ring on shields, no damage, and a 200CR reward? Initial scan showed him as clean, so if he is bounty hunting, how can his status change to wanted as soon as he fired on me? My bounty is galaxy wide.

Agreed: i was being hit by 'impulse and heat' attacks well after that tread was started by Zac.

Im vote up CMDRs and only Elite or Deadly AI.

I would really like to ask the NPC as they did to find materials for the range 5 missiles.

I think frontier has created NPC exceeding patience and human intelligence and therefore already have the modules that anyone can have.

I think our world can be destroyed by these noobs NPC. The human race will die of boredom looking materials.

And the NPC celebrate with color lasers beam.

I can not really understand who think those designing this game and as realize simple things.

And where is the option to put Engineers mod to ALL NPC and CMDR's?

Now the poll is a nonsense. NOW NPC are NOT using Engineers mod's.

You need something in between, NPC's should start with no mods and scale up with the average progression of a player otherwise you have huge difficulty spike that falls off, or a difficulty drop-off where they go from easy to unbelievably easy. They have enough data to model this and obviously the lower rank NPC's should be limited but elite npc's should trend towards good upgrades over many months.

Casual, but long-time player here. Here is my vote:

NPC ships shouldn't have engineering modules right now. Given the current grind involved in gathering mats, building reputation with the various engineers, making repeated attempts on various upgrades until you get an acceptable set of parameters, it should be MONTHS before NPCs are sporting lots of high level upgraded modules. Because at the rate I can play, it will take me months just to get ONE of my ships 'fully' upgraded. If I have to pay the cost in time to do all of this grinding, so should the NPCs.

CMDR Only.

NPC have not the same constraints as player to grind/search materials and play RNG.

To me AI equipped with equipment upgrade related of cheating...

And even if AI were like players... I really think that some of them won't appreciate to spend time in grinding and playing casino.

Hmm

I am still being hit by impulse and heat and I can see the other AI ships are when I see the icon by their shield status.

Is this still WAS then?
