My approach to the game so far...

So it's been 6 days and I think I'm doing rather well.

I chopped in the Mercenary edition Eagle and ran away with the cash to start trading. I figured since I'm wholly crap at combat I needed a well equipped ship to compensate before I go bounty hunting or generally looking for fisticuffs.

I started trading and looked for a decent round robin of several systems that would give me a decent return. Easier said than done and I made some silly trading mistakes early on. However, on day two the Sidey was safely mothballed and I was the proud owner of a Hauler a'la Ford Transit.

Another day of trading and I managed to scrap together 400,000 or so CR. I traded in the Hauler, which only had a few hundred light years on the clock but had developed a strange knocking sound and the heater no longer worked. By hey, the work house served me well.

The Cobra MK III is like a BMW compared to the Hauler. It's fast(er), it makes me look sexy and I no longer feel the need to indicate when leaving star ports. I also stick firmly in the outside lane in Supercruise. I know, I'm an inconsiderate bar steward. But like a BMW the Cobra seems severely lacking in optional extras and I need an extra 10,000,000CR to trick her out fully so she will kick ass in a fight. Remember folks, I'm lacking appropriate genes for effective combat so your mileage in a standard BMW may vary.

So I traded for a couple more days to plunder 1,000,000CR for a Type 6. The Cobra is now in the garage and in need of a good wash and polish. It was just too slow to make decent CR in a Cobra. The Type 6 has a face only a mother could love so I tend to close my eyes when in Outfitting as some things can't be unseen.

And here I am, like a stockbroker in a flying cement truck playing the market for all its worth until it crashes before my very eyes. Then hopefully the federal government will bail me out.

Thanks for reading ;)

i think for new players yes trade missions are a good starting point, there seems to be a lack of intermediate ships from the 200k to 15m range. guessign that will change but for now yeah avoid anything u cant kill, kill things u can

I keep a beat up old sidewinder to head out and make some kills now and again. It's a no lose choice, head out to a nav beacon/mining point and take on anything up to a Cobra so long as they are AI. Good practice if nothing more. But the views are great and if you do die in some way or another, no sweat. The saving on fuel alone is more than enough to cover. Spend a little and you can easily make it escape worthy if you are by chance set up by a commander.

Happy hunting and a Merry Christmas! Ho ho ho!

My type 6 lakon, Bettsy is on her last legs. She has about 5000 ly on the clock with busted sensors, duct taped interior and an odd smell in the cargo hold. Im thinking about buying myself a shiny new Asp with heated seats.

Trading will be good with toasty buns.
