My Cobra MK III vs a Python in Anarchy in 3440x1440 at 60 FPS (Video)

Just a video for those of you who enjoy the combat in this great game (gameplay is with a TrackIR 5 and Saitek X-55 HOTAS):

Elite Dangerous: Cobra MK III vs Python

It's based in the system HR 7012, an Anarchy system at the interface between numerous Empire and Federation systems. I was bounty hunting at the Nav Beacon when I spotted a Python with a 70,962 credit bounty. Pretty cool to watch since it's a long dogfight recorded at 3440x1440 at 60 FPS. Enjoy! :)

Not to take anything away from your flying and combat skills, which are quite impressive, but I've seen this type of thing before in other videos. Why is it that the initial passes of the python inflict such a strong punch, causing your shields to melt quickly, making your dashboard sizzle and pop like fireworks, and starts chewing into your hull; but as the fight progresses, like at around 1:50ish, his passes seem to cease doing much of anything at all? I mean maybe I could see it if you were subtargeting his weapon systems, but afaics, you only ever target the cargo hatch, then the power plant. As I've said, I've seen this kind of thing before, even where the NPC seems to stop fighting altogether, and it always feels to me like the AI is lacking in some way. I'm sorry if this seems like a downer, but this reply is solely about my dissapointment with the AI, not about any lack of skill on your part. To you I say great kill and bounty. You fought well, Sir!

The problem with the AI is that it really struggles to shake off a pilot who can manoeuvre around it so that they rarely get hit. This is why smaller ships are doing so well.

The AI needs to use more turrets and make better use of shield cells, though tbh shield cells need nerfing hard because they are far too good in the hands of a player.

I had a nice fight in my last video against a Master level Asp who used turrets extensively - and even though the AI fought pretty well I took no damage while only in an Eagle with cheap upgrades. This is the best I've ever seen the AI fight.

I agree completely with your comments on the AI. I would have felt the need to target the ship's weapons more if I had felt threatened by them later on in the fight. Alas, I didn't need to bother it seems. It would be nice if Anacondas and Pythons were a bit more challenging to take down.

I assume the npc is diverting power form weapons to shields as it takes damage and can fire less often.

I've noticed the same thing with anacondas, their turrets pack a punch at the start, but less after that, I though maybe I'm also no evasive enough until my shields are nearly gone :)

Congrates OP.

I hear you, and maybe it's because the op flew so well that the NPC didn't have as much time in its later passes to keep weapons on target as long as it did initially. That certainly might explain it, but considering how often I've seen this kind of thing, I still think there's some nonesense going on with the AI as concerns damage to player over time. All I know is - I've got to log on now and go bounty hunting!!! Damn, that looked like fun. :D

I noticed that on your first pass you had practically no pips in systems.
Yet you had a full charge in weapons, which would have lasted for the first pass.
You took WAY too much damage on that first run because of this.
Great battle btw though, what matters is the ending. :D

That makes sense, but the op had to make the same diversions of power to shields too, if I remember correctly, yet still was able to continue inflicting good damage.

Btw, I have to ask you why it was the cargo hatch you decided to subtarget first? I've never thought to target a cargo hatch, as I never do pirating. Am I missing something of importance in targeting it?

It's likely just a "next subsystem" keybind which is the Cargo Hatch first. Useful for pirates who want to get their targets to drop cargo (requires shields down first and cargo drops at certain %'s)

Thanks for the compliments on my flight skills! :)

Nothing other than I like to make ships pop their cargo to space for me to loot, especially big ships can at times provide good loot for the black market. Of course, if I'm having trouble chewing through the shields to start off with or the ship is a challenge to not let kill me, I prioritise destroying it and the power plant is the primary target at that point. If I can however, I sometimes destroy the cargo hatch and let the ship pop all its cargo. I wait for this to happen before continuing my attack to destroy it. Like I said, if I can, hahaha.

I wish I could run down sampling that smooth, I'm jealous. Nice video, whats your system specs?

This is a new system I built:

Motherboard = Asus Rampage V Extreme
CPU = Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E overclocked to 4.375 GHz
RAM = Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB DDR4-3000MHz
Graphics = Two EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI
Monitor = LG Flatron 34UM95-P 34" IPS 3440x1440 21:9

Runs this game brilliantly at native 3440x1440 with everything turned up, and vertical FOV at 75° (set in XML).
