My documents don't look like paper icons anymore, they look like "app folders" or whatever you call them?

The picture below is not mine but after a hard attempt to figure out what they are called, they look exactly what you see under the "folder views" text in the picture below:

Windows_Folder_Options.png

I'm not sure what could have caused this. They are mostly rich text format documents that have been affected and even some of my video game files, but fortunately there's no effect -- it just bugs me. My system is Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks if anyone can help.

Right click on the icon.

Select Properties.

Look for a button labelled choose Icon. Choose a more attractive icon.

And yes, he's the guy near the military bas. The Canadian military base which uses radios out of the 1950s.

Be nice, he may not have much time. :D

Okay. But it seems I can only do it once per each icon change. How do I make all documents the right icon?

It can be done but I can't remember the method for W7.

I have a small laptop which use it. I'll try a dig it out and find out. I know it's pretty simple once you know how.

Could he search for file endings and change all on each list?

Not a clue myself.

Sorry to have taken so long. I can't get the w7 PC started.

Anyway, a quick google turns up these:

The icons are usually stored in a file. Unfortunately where that file is and how many different ones there are, seems to be one of those questions that is only known to those who need to know.

Changing the icon isn't difficult. But you may need to persist.

I'm using W10 now. I have a problem that my download folder icon always directs to the Documents folder. I ended up sorting that by creating a shortcut and changing the icon of that. Just saying, sometimes you need to be creative and just accept that Windows, like Democracy, is a far from perfect beast, but it's the best we have.
