I catch those and feed them to my chickens. If they swallow them when they are still alive, you can still hear them chirping from inside the chicken.

Ha ha - nice!

A woman in the news fed her husband dog food for twenty years. Apparently she just warmed it up and added it to whatever.
...They’re divorced now. He found out.

And ditto!

About cats and birds ... it’s a fun story on an individual basis.
Unfortunately, there are many, many individual cases. And there is, where the problem starts ...

Sorry fo being a party pooper. But I realy believe, cat owners should at least be aware of this issue.
(To be clear: I love cats. My partner ownes one and the little one is close to my heart. But she is a pure house cat - which comes with its own moral questions.)

When my cat comes out in the early evening and does not come back for the night, I know that he stays out to kill.

But I can not do anything. This is the nature. The cat is a predator and often kills just for fun.

I can not deprive him of his kibbles to punish him, otherwise he would be worse

I live in Hawai'i where we have lots of endangered, and often ground nesting birds, so none of that is lost on me.
Cats are efficient predators and people are indeed pretty irresponsible.

But it's still pretty cool to have a pet with that kind of wild streak still intact!

Hey, look at it this way - the pigeon that my dog ate is an invasive s species, too :)

I see your concern, and it totally makes sense for isolated ecosystems, but I'd be interested to read the impact beyond that. I'll have to do some research tonight.

I suspect that most places are like the U.K.

My cat leaves us the severed heads of mice. He eats the rest. But he collects trophies.

One of these nights my dogs are going to catch an opossum on the ground, and it's going to turn out bad for everyone involved, including me.

Meanwhile, my dog hunts stuffing in cuddly toys.

In all case, the cat is very useful.

Outside, in the barn we have no mouse or other rodents.

My cat also likes to eat the insects. Very useful in the house

Why won’t Alec Turner add this thread to his “Best of forum” I just don’t know !

OK OK, you got me and yes, I admit that I do occasionally forum-google myself. [haha]

Right, excuse me while I go and read the OP and see what this is all about.
