Newcomer / Intro My Elite Experience!

Hello Commanders!

First off, I'd like to thank the devs for this awesome program. Triple-monitor support, TM WH preset maps, TIR support -- all these are small things but really add up to the immersion of the player and being able to use them right away just helps getting sucked into the game world.... or should I say "game universe"... :D And that's not even mentioning how the game itself is made -- gorgeous graphics, varies space stations, manual docking/undocking (I was skeptical of this at first, but it is quite cool!), and then there's the "play however you want" mode.

Second, I'd like to curse the devs for this awesome program. I'm not very good at "open world" games such as Skyrim or EVE. "You can be whatever you want, you can do whatever you want to do." That sounds fun if you actually had a clue what you wanted to do, if not, well, sux to be you! (or me!) Now I gotta lose so many hours trying things out and deciding what I want to be/do. I expect to lose a lot of money in the process as well. Thanks devs!

My experience with Elite has only been with the dogfight demo they released, but that was enough to show me that I wanted to play the game. Once I knew I wanted it, I decided to wait until release before playing the game. I did not want to spoil the experience. On release day, I had to wait an hour or two as the servers were patched, but then it was on! I spent a few hours scratching my head and contemplating rage-quitting but luckily, I was able to find help and I managed to do a few things in the Elite universe.

So far, I'm only up to about 20K credits. I don't know what I'm doing so I just look at bulletin boards trying to find good-paying transport missions or if I'm bored, go to some of the Nav points and see if I can find a bounty I can hunt. However, this is more of a miss than a hit probably due to 1) my skills and 2) my equipment/ship fittings. I've just managed to figure out the control mappings as well as enter some of my own control preferences as well so at least that's one obstacle out of the way. Now I'm off to explore the world a bit more and see if I can make some more money for better gear.

Sounds like you are being sucked nicely into the Elite universe :D

Don't forget Exploration and Mining on the things to do/try. Plenty to spend those hard earned credits on.

Not played Launch release yet but have thoroughly enjoyed Beta and Gamma. Maybe tonight...

Welcome Commander.

The key to open type games is to set yourself short and long term goals, such as make enough money to buy a Hauler (short term), and bring down an entire system through a ruined economy (long term).
Or trade until you have a decent ship and then bounty hunt, its up to you. Even with the superb graphics you still need an imagination.....

Yup! Started my true E: D experience last night and have to say I love it. Took a while to download due to my spaghetti internet and Kaspersky banner blocker blocking the download...!

Did the tutorials and then went into solo play to get the hang of things - spent half an hour trying to find out how to buy cargo to trade before finding a tutorial vid that explained not all docking places have a commodities market and I happened to spawn in one that didn't! D'OH! Being a veteran of '84 I was used to all stations having cargo... Anyway. This is one thing I am enjoying at the moment - learning.

I then spent another half an hour docking and undocking from a nearby coriolis station just because I could and it is such a visual treat. Took on a simple mission and off we went - overshot my supercruise destination by a fair way and like a learner driver had to 3 point turn it and go back a bit slower this time. Took a spin round the star a couple of planets and some moons before docking to complete my mission.

Went to bed at 2am and have felt like death all day at work... Looking forward to doing it all again tonight but in open space this time.
