Newcomer / Intro My Epic Newbie Fail

So I'm out hunting pirates, and things are going pretty good. I've got about 20k in bounties and I'm working on my next one. Well along comes Mr. Jackass (Security Vessel) and flies directly in front on my multi-cannons. This is somehow my fault. I see "Assault on Security Vessel" or some such flash on my screen, and feel that "Oh ****!" moment. There's three of these guys and only one of me. So I boost like a bat out of hell, with my heat warnings going ballistic and my shields failing as they all open hell on me. Finally the Frameshift drive kicks in and I escape.

Now I have no idea what to do and the red "wanted" symbol is flashing on my right. I decide to make for the nearest station, and see if I can pay it off. But wait... the last time I went into a station with a bounty (didn't know I had it at the time) I was blown to smithereens before I had so much as graced the entryway. I seem to remember a scan preceding it before it happened. Well being the super genius I am, I decide I'm gonna try for the first time something I saw in a video of someone lining up with the gateway to a station and boosting in with everything turned off. This way no scans will happen, I'll land like a badass and pay off the bounty before anyone knew I was there. Brilliant. I set myself about 10 km out and line up perfectly. I disable everything but engines and boost myself up to 300 m/s then kill the engine as I drift in. I enable silent running because yeah, why not. So I'm almost to the gateway and I ninja re-enable the engines, BAM! straight through the opening... and "TRESPASS WARNING!!!" ****! I forgot docking request! I panic and start mashing keys. I hit the boost. ****! I try to stop but it's too late. I smash against the rear of the station and bounce at least 5 times with no cushy shields to protect me. Now things are sparking and warning alarms are blaring. I see 30 percent hull left... but then I realize the trespass warning is counting down. I've got 10 seconds to escape this death trap before they finish me off. So I boost again, this time for the entrance and then I realize I'm badly overheating (thanks silent running) so I turn it off which distracts me just long enough to screw up my trajectory and I barely manage to correct before flying through with 1 second left (no kidding).

It's at this point I get scanned (NOOOO!!!!). Nothing happens. No alarms blare, no criminal warnings pop up. I now realize that I went through all that for a station that doesn't even give a **** about me because they're part of the Eravate something something and not the Independent Eravate whatever. So I gather what dignity I have, request docking, repair my ship and pay the bounty without a single person giving a rat's ass.

TL-DR: I got a bounty on my head and flew to a station, decided to stealth my way in to pay it off, and found out after a massive crash and trespass that they didn't even care about the bounty.

Congratulations, most people only manage to make one or two errors at the same time, you have gone straight for the full-blown error cascade, fantastic, plus you made it out alive and didn't come here to moan about it.

Always thrills me to relive my own previous endeavors vicariously through those that did better than I. Well done, well done sir. Unfortunately, my run didn't go so good, was still getting used to flight stick and keyboard. But at least I had the freebie sidewinder to get back into.

Classic, it's happened to alot of us. You saved a lot of time by learning all of that at once. I think I made all those mistakes separately over a weeks time. And usually died, so you are well ahead of the curve :)

I like your style. :)

If by style you mean performing as many ****-ups as is humanly possibly within the frame of only 10 minutes, thanks, I try. ;)

Well hopefully if I remember all of it. Must request docking permission...

Haha brill story.

I learnt that I must request docking on the tutorial.

Even though the tutorial tells you to request docking, I somehow managed to forget and got blowed up.

Haven't made that mistake again... yet

Oh man.. Gimme ALL THE PUCKERING MOMENTS! +rep for the comedy of errors. You handled that better than I would... that would have been a "brick through the monitor" moment for me, I swear!

Thank you all for the replies and rep. Hopefully on my next attempt of this magnitude I won't perform such a cavalcade of fail, but it was quite the experience.:)
