Newcomer / Intro My Experience so far..

Hi all, Firstly let me explain my set up. I have the Saitek 52 flight controlers and using an DK2 Oculus Rift. This is absolutely an amazing way to play E.D. There are a few reasons for this

1. The Flight controls allow you to play without using the keyboard, very important if your using a Rift as you cant see controls heh.
2. Looking at the screens to your left and right feels VERY natural, playing without always felt awkward.
3. The game is breathtaking and full marks on supporting the rift guys, it really feels like the way its meant to be played.

So thats how I am playing, my experience of the game with friends has been a mixed one.

My husband stopped playing, and at first I had lots of friends playing, we decided collectively that we would simply host our own universe and just play together. This was before wings, quickly we found that we all just went off into the universe and did our own things. My partner burnt out being a successful early game trader, something I have not done yet in game. My other friend went miner but this was broken and then went explorer.. only to find it very hard to make money. I went bounty hunter.

Wings came out and it didnt do enough to get people back, it made me sad. Now the latest patch im excited about how i might effect things in my own little way (hidden in my own universe) but now my husband thinks this patch is to push more open play, make it more like an MMO then ever before and it appeals to him less.. Such a shame.

At its height we had about 10 players roaming in our little universe, but now its just me, I should likely go solo-play but I still hope to find someone just logging in. I am also part of a Clan, and that clan plays open world. Not very often though. They keep telling me its not too bad, you never see too many people. My thought on this is, I have worked extremely hard playing the game with no tricks or cheats totally vanilla. I quested up to get my ranks in the federation, I stuck with bounty hunting throughout although I did delivery missions and a few smuggling missions to get faction.

I am currently a Lt Commander, I know i can go up to Post Commander but not really sure how, it seems to have hit a wall with that.

So I went from Sidewinder, to Viper, to Vulture. All bounty hunting, The vulture, i don't think i like the experience as much as the viper. The vulture just has so much issue with power. It definitely does the job but you always feel your missing out, its a bit like having a basic stripped out race car.. Sure it looks sweet on the outside, but very little comfort inside. Im amazed at how much money people seem to have, heh I must have missed a trick, I play a good few hours a day, maybe 4 or 5 at times, I have a full time job so thats a ton of free time. On a good run, I make between 1.5 - 2.3 million per hour taking bounties in a RES. However there are a few things that are tricky and will stop me getting them..

1. Shooting before the scan is complete. GETTING any kind wanted level. Particularly annoying when they are happy shooting you... Dare I defend myself and return fire without seeing who it is hahaha...
2. Jumping into a RES that only has little ships.. Funny enough I have more trouble with small ships then bigger ships. Its like being pecked to death by ducks.!
3. The RES Point simply dries up of viable targets.. like over 20 mins with very little going on.

RES are a bit strange. Not sure if its me but I never get bounties above MASTER in the ones i do. The highest bounty I have ever had from a single kill was an Anaconda @ 250,000 I was very happy but, I have NEVER seen an Elite bounty NPC before. The only things I see with higher rankings then me tends to be the Security Forces or ones with no bounties.

Anyway I now have nearly 50 Million Hard earned... I thinking about trading in the Vulture for a FDL. Keep hearing nay sayers saying its not all that and go for a python but i still feel compelled to buy it.

Well I hope all you CMDRs out there have had better experience with friends.

You're amazed how much money people have and you have 50m credits, racking up 2m per hour BH? I think I have half that since launch in December and still feel like I'm doing well.

I hope you don't give up. The game is great and going to get better and better. I've never played with an Oculus, I'm dying to do that but I'm waiting for a final release build or maybe the Valve headset when that comes out (probably first at the end of this year).

If you are looking for a friendly group you could try Mobius. It's a group of a few thousand players who play without PvP-ing each other so it's all friendly. You see a ship, raise comms and say hello, fly into the night...

Fly safe commander.

I have the same setup as you..except a reclining chair with foot rest that puts me in the same seated position as in the game :)...and yes the occulus is incredible for the effect..when a game can fool me into feeling momentum and height ..thats a awesome game ( I was a paratrooper for many years so its relatable ), its a shame you cannot really describe it ..you have to experience the occulus for yourself..its like the matrix..lol

I have had more of a reverse effect in the res areas..they get much more crowded the longer I stay..with all the little security birds pecking on everything.

but yeah join a group or just find people here on the forums..and keep flying

I personally cannot wait to get the diamondback..thats looks like it could be a mean customer.

also..the clipper is a wonderful ship..i keep that and a vulture for most of my uses.

Its only 2 million on a good run, on a bad run it might be only 400k, generally i get stopped bounty hunting if i can itchy trigger fingers.

Well at the moment, i just spent all my earned monies and now proud owner of a Fer-de-Lance. It really does fly a bit like a brick haha, it made me miss my vulture.. however now im getting used to the slow turning and feel a bit happier with the weapon config. Its like a posh slow fighter. I should go looking around more for groups and get more involved with the community for sure. Ex Para, that is very impressive. I have to agree, you cant tell someone about the rift, they have to try. Dont you hate those friends though that refuse to give it a go.. and your all like Awww, you really should!!! :D haha.

Wow...great post. (sooo jelly about the Rift :p)

My clan-mates who have bought FDL's have returned them. IMO 50 mil will get you a heckofa well-kitted Clipper (provided you're inclined to progress up to Baron in the Empire). I've got one and really dig it, but I still have a lot of money left to spend on it. I've been following some guys on Twitch that run Clippers and they have no problems. But they aren't running alone either.

People refuse to give the rift a go???!

What kind of people are these?

People without $700 :D

I've been debating a triple monitor setup vs a Rift (or competing VR headset) and the triple monitor is looking more viable. I want to be able to see my KB and I can use the displays for all my PC activities, not just games.
