Hi all, Firstly let me explain my set up. I have the Saitek 52 flight controlers and using an DK2 Oculus Rift. This is absolutely an amazing way to play E.D. There are a few reasons for this
1. The Flight controls allow you to play without using the keyboard, very important if your using a Rift as you cant see controls heh.
2. Looking at the screens to your left and right feels VERY natural, playing without always felt awkward.
3. The game is breathtaking and full marks on supporting the rift guys, it really feels like the way its meant to be played.
So thats how I am playing, my experience of the game with friends has been a mixed one.
My husband stopped playing, and at first I had lots of friends playing, we decided collectively that we would simply host our own universe and just play together. This was before wings, quickly we found that we all just went off into the universe and did our own things. My partner burnt out being a successful early game trader, something I have not done yet in game. My other friend went miner but this was broken and then went explorer.. only to find it very hard to make money. I went bounty hunter.
Wings came out and it didnt do enough to get people back, it made me sad. Now the latest patch im excited about how i might effect things in my own little way (hidden in my own universe) but now my husband thinks this patch is to push more open play, make it more like an MMO then ever before and it appeals to him less.. Such a shame.
At its height we had about 10 players roaming in our little universe, but now its just me, I should likely go solo-play but I still hope to find someone just logging in. I am also part of a Clan, and that clan plays open world. Not very often though. They keep telling me its not too bad, you never see too many people. My thought on this is, I have worked extremely hard playing the game with no tricks or cheats totally vanilla. I quested up to get my ranks in the federation, I stuck with bounty hunting throughout although I did delivery missions and a few smuggling missions to get faction.
I am currently a Lt Commander, I know i can go up to Post Commander but not really sure how, it seems to have hit a wall with that.
So I went from Sidewinder, to Viper, to Vulture. All bounty hunting, The vulture, i don't think i like the experience as much as the viper. The vulture just has so much issue with power. It definitely does the job but you always feel your missing out, its a bit like having a basic stripped out race car.. Sure it looks sweet on the outside, but very little comfort inside. Im amazed at how much money people seem to have, heh I must have missed a trick, I play a good few hours a day, maybe 4 or 5 at times, I have a full time job so thats a ton of free time. On a good run, I make between 1.5 - 2.3 million per hour taking bounties in a RES. However there are a few things that are tricky and will stop me getting them..
1. Shooting before the scan is complete. GETTING any kind wanted level. Particularly annoying when they are happy shooting you... Dare I defend myself and return fire without seeing who it is hahaha...
2. Jumping into a RES that only has little ships.. Funny enough I have more trouble with small ships then bigger ships. Its like being pecked to death by ducks.!
3. The RES Point simply dries up of viable targets.. like over 20 mins with very little going on.
RES are a bit strange. Not sure if its me but I never get bounties above MASTER in the ones i do. The highest bounty I have ever had from a single kill was an Anaconda @ 250,000 I was very happy but, I have NEVER seen an Elite bounty NPC before. The only things I see with higher rankings then me tends to be the Security Forces or ones with no bounties.
Anyway I now have nearly 50 Million Hard earned... I thinking about trading in the Vulture for a FDL. Keep hearing nay sayers saying its not all that and go for a python but i still feel compelled to buy it.
Well I hope all you CMDRs out there have had better experience with friends.
