Alright, so I have to admit, I was really questioning whether or not I was going to get this game or not. I was really worried after the prior one that it just wouldn't hold my attention. What finally tipped me over was seeing that many dinos were resized and there was now a real difference between individual ceratopsids, ankylosaurids, etc.
So, having gotten the game, I jumped into it and found a greatly improved management experience. The more I've been playing, the more I realized how big of a leap forward this was.
For a long time know, I've realized that to keep the peace you need a clear alpha who other pack or herd members will not challenge. I got lucky in JP CT and my raptors had a clear alpha from the start. My trikes didn't and indeed kept killing each other as later on so did the various small stegosaurids and ankylosaurids I tried to keep, but I pretty much ignored the problem and let the herds dwindle until they stopped fighting because the enclosures were big enough.
I then got to 5 stars in Challenge Mode again without giving it too much thought. I just dealt with the injuries.
Finally I've been playing Chaos Theory, this time JP2. I've been keeping dilos and coels and trikes who are all fighting, and it really got to be too much. So I took the time to breed clear alphas and one by one I got the fighting to stop. And like magic, it did (though with so many other targets it took the alpha a while to fight my new intended challenger).
Now I am breeding troodons and taking care to focus on a clear alpha from the start. And for the first time when playing a JP game, I feel like a real park manager.
Thank you for that, Frontier!
