My feedback: virtually all beta problems persist

The graphics are stunning, but I don't think the devs fixed much of anything between all of our beta feedback and this release. Game time is much too fast to be able to enjoy your animals. They die too quickly from old age unless you constantly pause the game, but then of course you can't watch the animals DO anything when they're paused.

During the beta, gamers compiled long lists of excellent feedback about the beta's clunky user interface. I'm grateful to those people for their hard work. Unfortunately, virtually none of it was heeded. The finished game has that same clunky UI nearly unchanged.

We were promised endearing social interactions between animals. In my zoo, animals show no interest in each other except for fighting. Newborns immediately run away from their mother and never return. We were promised individual colors and markings, but in my zoo all the wolves, for example, look identical. Wolves also fight constantly, the moment a wolf pup grows up he fights with his parents, injuring or killing them.

I'm sorry, but I'm disappointed in the game and don't recommend it until these issues are actually worked on.

There was probably not enough time to fix everything. It was just a month between the beta and release and I imagine they had to have the game ready sooner than that.

Alot of feedback made it to the full game - a whole new challenge mode, the awful blue colouring when animal selected was changed to much better white contour, in tutorial it actually shows you what to press, when animals dislike a plant it now shows you which one it is in habitat etc. Those are just some off the top of my head. Much more was probably changed.

As much as I would like slowed time (and I would not mind slowing it alot), it will probably need more investigating because the whole game would need to be balanced around it.

This is pretty much what they spent the entire 6 weeks on. I imagine they originally thought the time between beta and release was good for fixing issues, but then they decided based on feedback to add this entire new game mode, so they spent all their time (or most all) on that one new feature and the majority of issues and bugs from beta got pushed back.

I wish wish they had just communicated this.

The new mode was a waste of time honestly, they could of just added more customization to sandbox mode then bam there's challenge mode for you. I think the bugs and fixes are much more important than an unneeded mode

It still would have taken the same amount of time to program in those options? Lol. To create challenge mode they might have taken sandbox mode and altered it. In fact, it might have taken even more time to program more customization in. Hard to say without knowing how they went about making sandbox mode.

Idk. I'm frustrated that game breaking bugs are still in but I do appreciate the fact they did put in this mode for us, when initially it was one of the biggest requests on the forums. Gotta give up something to get something else.

I'd much rather have had the promised (multiple times including explicitly in the beta feedback forum) soxial interactions than the never promised "challenge" mode.

I personally would have too, but I can also imagine the backlash they would have recieved if they hadn't included the challenge mode... And since developers aren't robots and they had a limited time to work with (they probably never imagined they would have to make a new mode in just a month), they would have had to make a choice in which to do.

Why not clearly communicate that. They assured beta players the social interactions would be there on release. I can't imagine they thought players would just be satisfied with half finished super brief interactions that occur so rarely. If they made the choice to essentially leave out a major part of the game but didn't tell people then that is false advertising and I hope that is not the case and perhaps this is just an aspect that is bugged and we'll get some word on it soon :/

Don't ask me, I'm wondering that same thing lol. If at release they said something like "we've been busy getting out the challenge mode so interactions will be coming in a later patch" then I'd be perfectly happy. The silence is what's worrying.

With my earlier comments I just wanted to point out the other side to this conversation. I'm not necessarily defending Frontier because I'm wondering about social interactions and other stuff just as much as you guys.

But sometimes it also helps to remember that you don't know 100% what happened on the developer's side during this time. I know from experience what it's like to add a new block of code, only for multiple things to suddenly break and throw bugs because of the new code. It's possible even Frontier had hoped to get out more than they did, but a game's gotta launch when it's gotta launch, especially if you have investors you need to make happy.

More communication between developers and players is all I ask for.

You are right. I do appreciate all the work here and am trying to stay somewhat hopeful.
