My first agressive Thargoid Encounter in 2.4 - video

Was on my way to Maia to see some thargoid action. On the way I spotted a "Non-human Signal Source (Threat 5)", so obviously I had to investigate.
It had a lone thargoid, that seemed to have destroyed some imperial ships. It launched some Thargons when I went near it, and attacked after I decided to see if I could avenge the people I assume it had killed.

Seems that the Thargoid weapons damage your hull even when the shields are still up

youtube link of the encounter below (should be 1080p once youtube is done processing):

Anyone else happen to notice the block of numbers in the scan window?

Any resident numerologist want to decipher these into something meaningful?

Numerology is a bogus pseudoscience, who you're looking for is somebody with lots of patience and some cryptography knowledge :)

You totally shot first! She was defensive before you shot her! And she didn't even emp-blasted you... That wasn't even a fight.

If you dont get close they leave you alone, scan the dead ships in the area and then leave. colour green.
If you try to get close to use the datalink scanner they pull away and then get angry. colour red.

Data link scan comes up with a message about incompatible data, unable to process or some such.

Ive tried to fight one, but they just dont go down.

Hello CMDRs

I got some additional data on those blocks of numbers you receive when scanning one of those thargoids.
you get three different blocks of numbers for each thargoid (thea are repeated continuosly).
However the blocks of numbers are different for each thargoid and also if you encounter the same thargoid (same signal source) twice.
This leads me to the assumption that this might just be a series of random numbers and not an encrypted message.

Also, I found that the Thargoids always attack, even if you don`t shoot at them.
I don`t know if this attack is triggered if you go too close or stay in their vicinity too long or scan them.
would be nice to know if you can avoid being attacked.

To use the data link you need to get very close.. Thats when they turn.
Thargoids are picky about personal space it seems.

Vasco Sapien answered my second question before I asked it ;)

Also a sidenote to the Numbers:
Engineers Palin is currently researching in a sensor specialized on thargoids
(there is a Community Goal to supply him with all sorts of material
and Engineers Lyz Ryder is researching weapontechnologies that might be able to kill thargoids (also a CG) )

Once we got those Scanners the numbers might make sense.
