My first ambush was awesome!

Just hopping in to say I really love how tense the interdiction ambushes can be in this game!

I was flying towards Freeport, getting ready to drop off some Mineral Oil, when I got the Interdiction message. I'd been so used to interdictions being conducted by Federal police that I initially just sat there waiting for them to scan me. Hearing my ship tell me I was being attacked was my first warning sign, but I only really understood what I'd gotten into when some lasers whiffed past my ship.

Immediately I kicked into evasive maneuvers, and knowing that I was still seriously under-equipped, I followed the advice I'd seen here on the forums - full pips to engines, two pips to shields, hit the supercruise and stay on the evasive until it's charged up.

It's tense and almost movie-like seeing the warning that my Supercruise chargeup is being slowed down by a factor of 6 because of nearby masses. Trying my best to stay away from enemy lasers while quietly muttering "Come on, charge, charge!" under my breath. And then when the supercruise finally kicks in and I escape, it's the most wonderful feeling in the world.

(Even if I did mess up that awesome feeling by attempting to park backwards when I got back to Dahan Gate.)

Granted, I still need a lot of practice in space combat maneuvering, as both times I've been attacked so far, my ship's taken a beating and I've ended up losing some of my hard-earned profits on repairing my hull. It's still really awesome, though :D

You protected your shipment from those dirty pirates :)

If I'm still too close to the enemy to charge up supercruise, I usually just cancel the supercruise and keep blasting away at the engine boost until I'm far enough away.

I'll need to keep that in mind next time, thanks! Speaking of which, any idea what affects the charge time of supercruise during combat? The first fight I had there were three or so enemies, and the presence of nearby masses slowed down my charge by a factor of six - a later similar encounter only had one enemy, but my charge was slowed down by a factor of 12. It confused me a bit, so I'm just wondering!

when you see that factoring happening your probably better off cancelling the cruise and just concentrating on boosting away. keep trying and cancelling sc until you have a clear cruise.

I agree I was flying solo last night in some Warzones and a few players came in to say hello. I was flying in formation with the bots in a nice big posse it was pretty epic. Secured the field for an hour and finally made some scratch. It's challenging but it should be in a starter ship with next to nothing. I'm fighting some pretty big lag at times also being a Canuck. I just love this game already. The scale and travel system is just wow. I just love manual supercruise and enjoying the sights as I pull up from the galactic plane. Learning to handle the speed of my ship in supercruise has been extremely rewarding for me anyways. I can't wait to see more of the galaxy and the next layers of content that go live :D

Thanks for the advice! I got into another interdiction ambush on my way to Azeban City. When the Radiant Dawn pilot cackled maniacally to me over the radio I knew what was up and kicked into evasive mode again, and followed your advice. Managed to get out of an ambush without a scratch for the very first time!

You saved my life (and my space-wallet) and I appreciate that. Thank you again, fellow commander :D

Last time I got interdicted by a hostile sidewinder, with only a single pulse laser to defend myself, I simply engaged the target. The npc bugged out before I could I destroy them, but I still managed to get them down to 50% hull without taking a bit of damage.

Interdictions somehow manage to suck and be amazing simultaneously. I love the tense feeling that they give me when I am warping back to get repaired, after being heavily damaged in a fight!
