So... I've been playing Elite for some time now - and until now I've never encountered a capital ship.
I have almost 3 weeks of played time logged, almost 3000 systems visited and near 300 mio credits.
I've been gaping in awe every time someone posts a video or pictures of a capital ship encounter - this time it was my turn.
I followed a distress call from an unknown signal source and stumbled upon a Farragut Class Battlecruiser.

At first they requested help because they had been sabotaged and was surrounded by pirates.
Needless to say I started cleaning out bandits as best I could.
My heart was racing - my adrenaline was pumping - I was really helping out a Capital Ship!!
And then the unthinkable happened...
In the heat and confusion of combat, suddenly a message came in the bridge of my Anaconda that made the hairs on my arms stand even more upright:
"Capital Class Signature Detected!"

Now - I have children. It was getting late so they were sleeping at this time, so I restrained myself to a small outburst of "oh my facking god!!!!11". (yea - I got a little carried away)
My fiance asked from the living room what was wrong.
I don't remember answering her...
A second Farragut warped in right next to the other one - broadside to broadside!
I dropped my target to make a quick scan to make sure they were friendly.
Positive - it was green.
But I had lost focus from my ship interface, and when I looked down my shields were getting shredded!
At this point I had the aggressive focus of 3 Vultures, and lo and behold - the first Farragut, that was suddenly not friendly any more!!!
All of them were shooting at me so I had to divert all power to engines and burst away from the now evil Farragut in hopes of getting out alive!
I activated a shield cell bank and returned all power to shields and watched as my heat levels rose to 130% percent while the ship was telling me that I was taking heat damage!
As I struggled to take down the 3 pursuing Vultures that wouldn't let me go I disabled flight assist and turned 180 degrees to face then.
This tactic somehow kept my shields intact, but took me around 20-30 km away from the capital ships. They were but silhouettes when I had beaten the last Vulture down, so I diverted power to engines and thrusted back to the Farraguts that were now fighting each other!

What dawned on me now, was that the first Farragut had changed faction. It was now a pirate ship!
That had happened already when it started shooting me, but I was to busy to realize! I thought I had hit it with my weapons and turned lawless. That was not the case thou.
The pirate Farragut was more or less inactive. It simply just took the beating that the other - still friendly capital ship - gave it.
I flew around to inspect and found that there were some heat relays that could still be destroyed, so i started shooting. As I destroyed the 2nd or 3rd relay I hoped for some awesome ending to my great achivement! I had helped the Federation regain a lost capital ship!
