My first passenger mission

So after months of procrastination, I finally get my act together to do my first passenger mission. I chose the Asp Explorer, kitted it out at Shinrarta, flew to Chana and saw 6.5M CR "Sight seeing adventure - Strong G". Only ~1200LY. Nice. Accepted.

Getting there was easy, around 30 jumps. Standard 45 degree descent and when the glide aborted, I thought, "I'm falling fast. Hang on, strong G? Is this a strong G world!? <Checks screen> 9+ Oh S***."

Pitches up to 90, boosts.... Still falling (fast). Smash. Shields gone and ship hull down to 15%. "Get out of here!" Crash. Ship destroyed. Passengers dead. Sorry guys & galls.

Lessons learnt
  • The clue is in the Sightseeing name
  • Remember to check G planet rating long before coming out of glide
  • Don't approach high G worlds at 45 degrees full whack

passenger - Dude. I'm a big time criminal. I'm like, totally unfazed by danger y'know? Who cares about hull damage? Don't make me lol.

me - Cool, because that Deadly FdL has been following us for 10 jumps now and is p1551ng me off big time. Let's hull-tank him for lulz.

[ FdL almost toast, still a good 41% hull left on the FDS ]

well, the strong G mission cost me one conda rebuy and needed three times trying .... first the landing, and on the second try i got massive hulldamage during take-off, which my passengers didn't like. totally love that mission, and have played it several times now, from conda to courier to DBE. will be the shake down cruise for my dolphin :)

Famous explorer wants to go 8,000ly to look at a star.

Me: Ok, I've got a couple of weeks, fire up the asp.

7,000 Lys later... Oh, I need twice my maximum jump range to get to the star... And even then I need to bounce off 3 neutron stars with special fuel.

Turn back disappointed.

No hint in the mission name for me though!

A lot LOL, they are a fun and challenging aspect of the game. I was interdicted into a neutron star and scanned, losing a 27 milliom sightaeeongission once - that hurt. Scanned trying to smuggle in a criminal and got blown up by the cops (before I got good at silent running and using chaff and heat sinks). Chanced down for trying to run 8 sightseeing missions at once by an unruly horde of pirates.
