I thought I would mention this in the forums as I see a lot of angst and anger about PvP and griefing. This is not about that, it's actually the opposite.
There I was tooling around the nav point in Lave in my Viper, popping smugglers and pirates with total glee, when suddenly there's a new signal. Oh no, a PLAYER!!! I've been seeing a lot more players around since the 1.05 update so I wasn't too fazed, but when I lined him up for a quick scan, I see he's a fully tooled up Python with a wanted status and a bounty > 2000000 Cr!
I hail him and he replies, asking me if I'm attacking pirates. When I reply in the affirmative, he then states that he protects pirates and that, unfortunately, I would have to die. So, we duelled a bit but I was hopelessly outclassed and eventually was forced to eject as my drive was shot down to 0%.
This is why I play in Open.
I had a blast, and even though I lost my Viper, I don't regret it. I was so impressed with the Python commander, playing the game the way he wanted to and accepting the big bulls eye that those choices gave him. I won't name him, but I do salute him.
