Newcomer / Intro My First PvP Kill...

I would use that big search engine (forget it's name now ) to check for that CMDR name (incl. the word 'CMDR') as you may have actually dished out some deserved karma. Although of course we don't know the full story/details leading up to the findings.
Yeah, I did that this morning. This what you mean?

In both this video and the other one regarding him, he uses the Windows 10 taskkill which makes ships disappear instantly rather than floating around for a minute.

Wait, what? I missed the name.

You killed a combat logger? Dude that's awesome! :D

(But now that we know, you should edit the name out of the OP. It's against the forum rules ;) )

Oops, really? Didn't know that, I removed his name from the OP.

First an accidental kill, now an accidental public shaming... looks like I'm on a n00b roll here. [big grin]

Doesn't matter. You killed a combat logger. You're a legend among PvPers! [hehe]

...Especially since it was a completely senseless kill. It didn't earn me anything, he wasn't even wanted. And I didn't even manage to finish my mission.

Congratulations...you are through to the second interview for the position of Trainee Muppet at SDC Ltd!

That's a pretty funny story OP. Glad I always send my ship off. On a side note, that was not your first PVP. It was your first PK ;)

What`s a combat logger? Noob here.

Someone who unplugs their computer to escape attack by another player, not considered fair practise especially by pilots flying fully modified A rated combat ships when less highly rated pilots of unmodified under armed D rated freighters and explorers use it to escape when the combat pilot attacks with no attempt at anything but murder.

Ah. Thanks.

Actually personally I wouldn't call explorers, traders, etc. combat loggers, if they don't have any chance of surviving the pointless assault. It's not cool from RP/lore/game rules point of view, yes, but if it annoys that seal-clubbing dumbass, I fully understand. (Even applaud that, not publicly, of course)

Combat logger that I have problems with is a person who engages in proper PvP (= at least somewhat consensual, both commanders have at least theoretical chance of winning, ...) and then when they are beaten, instead manning up and swallowing a defeat, they just log off.

You are right of course.

I have a bit of a jaundiced view I suppose, probably due to reading too many of the (wrong) threads in Dangerous Discussions where it is very easy to come to the conclusion that many players deem shooting sleeping baby seals with a machine gun as the acme of skilful PvP play.

Ah. Thanks.

To be more precise, it's not considered fair practice by FD either and is an actionable offence that can be reported. It's when someone cuts their internet connection in order to keep their ship from being destroyed (even from NPC).

I think I`ll stay in Solo for now. If there`s one thing I hate doing is killing someone by accident, even in a game.
Well, after this thread, I don't feel so terrible about it anymore. [big grin]

Plus, I haven't really killed anybody, I only destroyed their ship (which makes me think that the game fining me for 'murder' is a bit over the top).

And the chances to accidentally kill anybody are marginal. What I did was the result of being completely overwhelmed - I was on my first ever tip-off mission, found a planet crash site for the first time ever, and at the same time, made my first ever PvP encounter. All at the same time.

I learned a lot from that. Next time, I'll know that these tip-off hotspots are not individually generated for me, so other commanders are to be expected in the area. I will pay more attention to the name and the square on the radar. And I will know that another ship interacting with my mission target is not a reason for me to panic, they won't take anything away from me.

So a lot of factors led to me acting stupid - or karma just turned me into its weapon of choice, who knows. [big grin]
