My first time flying without insurance.

My ship overheats and blows up. I don't have a silent running key bound and I have removed the commands from voice attack. There were no visual or audio warnings saying silent running was active. So how it exactly happened remains a mystery to me. From what I understand the only way your ship can get %900 heat levels is with silent running enabled. I started a ticket for it but I don't think they will help me.

This cost me around 120 million credits. I know perhaps I should not have bought that 16mill piece of ship kit and kept 5mil back for insurance, but in my defense I have always flown with insurance except this one time. I was doing conflict zones and I have never even come close to death so I figured it would be ok for the few runs it would take to get the insurance credits back. I'm really not interested in starting over. So I'm not going to.

To FD: If it was "somehow" silent-running induced overheating (again it's not bound so if it turned itself on I would have had no way to turn if off) then there should be larger indicators that it is on. Big text n the middle of the HUD or something. Secondly when your heat reaches like %500 (again assuming silent running was on) then it should turn itself off. These things might prevent another glitch like this from ruining someone else's game.

What were you doing in a conflict zone?Did you unbound DELETE from silent running?
Sorry for your loss but people will never learn.

As I said in the OP, silent running is not bound and I have removed the respective voice command from my voice attack profile.

It is impossible for me to accidentally turn on silent running.

I'm not sure that is even what happened because there were no warnings on my HUD.

One of the things I did to try and stop the overheating was fire my heatsinks and restart and repair my ship. Neither helped. I could just watch as my hull drained away.

When it started overheating I managed to get clear of the fighting and into supercruise then dropped back into normal space where I tried to stop the overheating by restarting my ship.

Where's the video footage of the incident? You are running Shadowplay for NVidia or GVR for AMD, yes?

I don't "dashcam" my gaming. I play on a laptop with all the graphic settings nerfed. Recording would make it almost unplayable.
The only evidence is in the logs FD keeps.

Shadowplay has a 0% performance hit, while GVR comes in at an approximate 9% performance hit. Could mean the difference between losing 120 million and getting a refund.

FD will help you I think, they sorted me out when the screen froze on me and when it restarted I was crashing into a station, lost my Anaconda! I had insurance but would have left me with only a million credits left. Within a day of submitting a ticket they had restored my ship

AMD APU. Recording hits me right in the frames.

This is comforting.

Did you have Beam turrets ? If silent running wasn't active, and you weren't firing Beams like a maniac, Beam turrets firing constantly is the only explanation I can think of.

Sorry for your loss, but now you know : NEVER fly whitout insurrance. Doesn't matter if its the first or the 100th time, you knew the risks, you chose, you paid the price.

If I had lost my ship for a legitimate reason I would agree with you.

As for the beams, I have had it glitch before with a different ship where the weapons would not stop firing even while stowed. It was actually the first thing I thought it was. After stowing my weapons to to engage my FSD (power priority 2) I jumped out of the conflict zone then dropped back into normal space. Before trying to restart my ship I went to the modules screen and turned everything off. It had no effect.

Thankyou for the laugh commander.

I hope it happens to you someday.

It is not a matter of opinion, flying without insurrance was your choice. Wether you lost your ship for a legitimate reason or due to a bug is irrelevant, you pressed the Launch button.

Hopefully Bugs and glitches are insured by Frontier.

you weren't parked close to a big orange or white thing were you?

Nope. When I blew up I was in-between a station and a conflict zone.

Hope you get it sorted soon, man.

Your biggest mistake was not that you flew without insurance, but that you said so on this forum...

There is a big blue sign near fuel gauge when you are silent running, if it was not visible, then you were not silent running, also when you get into taking heat damage, 100+ % it tells you "taking heat damage" and sparks begin to fly, also heat indicator.
Silent running can be enabled via the function menu, just so you know, but there are plenty of indicators.

That said it is a good idea to get used to hitting screenshot button when odd stuff happens so you can figure it out afterwards, f10 I believe, or f12 for steam overlay if using that. When did you initially notice heat rising? how fast did it rise?
