I've always rather ignored the USS's, as a lot of missions seemed bugged and I was just trading. But this morning I decided to stop at every single one from the star that I arrived at to the station I was heading for.
It was slow going with 8/9 stops, but surprisingly fun. And it netted me about 200K in bounties and 150k in salvage in less than an hour.
If you need to break from whatever your day job is, then I thoroughly recommend this.
