Good innit? I recall heading to a system (G something or other), arriving and thinking..."hmm bugged, it's really dark here, where's the frigging sun?". Then noticing this tiny pinpoint of a white dwarf below me, was pretty awesome being in really, really dark space.

It should be stressed by the devs and on the official website, that this game simulates the whole galaxy to scale as realistically as possible.

Nice work!

You could also include Maher (brown dwarf, should be tiny), but giants and supergiants are not in the currently playable area, however.

Edit: Forget what I said. I thought was the gif already repeating, but in fact it went on and on and on and came to Maher, too. :D

Good thing we have relative quantities to hang onto, the actual scale blows the lid off, and that tend to hurt. :)

Fancy doing the same kind of gif with a few planets? Someone was complaining that "planets are too small". That's mostly the fault of the supercruise approach limit and the low texture detail, but it would be nice to see if gas giants really are bigger than the earthlike worlds when viewed from a constant distance.

Excellent idea!

Has the added bonus of keeping him quiet for a while as well ;)

Very nice Iain! Don't think I've visited all of those yet, so you've added some 'must go here' places to my list :)

Awesome, great post, have some rep! Also, this must be the biggest animated gif ever created. I bet the web server hosting this portal needed a new kidney after posting this :D

Why does the sun shine?

It does not. It sends out radiation, picked up by your senses telling you it shines. This world is pitch black, except for those who's senses are able to convert the energy.

Ask a bat, and he won't have a clue what you are talking about. It's only a matter of perception. All is relative, except for one thing.
