My hard earned stinking UP got nicked :(

2 of us,my friend is newish to ED, searching for an Unknown Probe(the one that is as rare as hen's teeth) . He fluffed the first UP USS he found(took 30 mins), I did ok with mine(eventually after AGES,another hour !!!!!) so I told him I will go to him and release it so he can see it(I have CRCR , he doesn't) .

I go to him, then release the UP. Lo on behold, out of nowhere, a dirty rat of an NPC showed up and in no time was on my UP. We are in DBX's , with max range and no guns ! He steals my UP,and starts attacking my mate. I think about it and figure there is only one thing for it, 4 pips to SYS and lining myself up to BOOST Head Butt him
After 2 successful head butts(we both down to 1 ring, my mate nearly out of shields) the NPC runs off,with my UP

It was a good laugh

Because so many ships in this game have pathetic jump ranges, and removing your weapons is sometimes the only way you can increase it. That's why.

Seriously, what's up with so many of these ships having such anaemic jump drives? You have to engineer the crap out of most of them to even get something approaching tolerable!

It's not just the weapons, it's the armor and other gear required to survive a battle. I don't equip weapons, to remind me to avoid combat which I might not win.

Since I stopped outfitting weapons, I've only faced a rebuy ONCE and that was over a year ago. I've gotten very good at avoiding interdiction and combat.

Did you miss the part where he said they are both in DBXs?

They can afford to have a couple of guns, even if it's just 2 pulse lasers.

As you can see I found it amusing,not a complaint
I do have combat and trade vessels with guns,but my DBX & Asp X are purely set up for range(ok nearly true,I can get more range but I love canyon runs so I have decent engines for regular boosting). I know the risks and have never been killed by NPCs, but if I played in Open(in or near bubble) more often then I might be equipped differently.
